I lost 10 lbs. before surgery and 49 lbs. since surgery, for a total of 59 lbs. I guarantee that the people you see every day are noticing a difference. MaryAlice (278)268/219/135 Lap RNY 9/3/04

Well I have been at a stand still this whole week. I hate looking at the scale and seeing no change. This is my first real long stall so of course I am freaking out. However, I lost 21 pounds pre-op and 82 pounds post-op. I am only 3 months out so I know I am not to the point where my weight loss will stop but I am still scared. I know a lot of people are going through this and then they bunce back so I am patiently waiting for the scale to move. Shannon

Lost 60 at 8 weeks post op, none prior to that (unless you count the thorough cleansing the week before surgery. That had to be 10 pounds itself.LOL) Don't worry, you're not failing. You've probably lost inches, and feel the difference in your clothes. I'm on another board where the women talk about how their plateaus open up other areas of growth. When and if I plateau, I'm going to work at focusing on my health and how my changes have affected others (positively). There are so many ways this surgery has helped us, and weight is just one of them! Hope this helps. Johanna

I lost 21 lbs pro-op and 34 post. I had surgery 9/29/04. I think that is slow, and so does the Weight Loss Clinic doctor (not the surgeon). He had the nutritionist check on what I was eating and told me to up my calories to at least 800. I've done that, but still no scale moving. My clothes are fitting looser though, and people are really staring to notice!! I fell OK about it, but am anxious to be "moving on". I'm a little scared that if it this slow this early out, how slow will it get? I NEED to start exercising!!!

Hi Margaret, Sounds like you are doing fine to me! Lots of people who have had a substantial loss pre-op (especially if they are smaller to begin with) can have a less dramatic loss post op. My highest weight that I knew of was 237.5 (I'm 5'1"), I went up and down for a few years, and weighed 228lbs on surgery day. I am now down to about 182, so down about 46 lbs from surgery day, 55 total down from high weight. Some days I worry about failing too. We have a lot of failure behind us. We don't have much experience with weight loss success so I guess it's natural that we would doubt it. But you are losing! You've lost a lot of weight!!!! Keep on keeping on and you'll see, there is a big range of normal for post op weight loss. We may be on the slower end of the range, but we can reach our goals just the same. There are more of us out there than you think! Love, Sue

You're doing great! It's har for us to see the loss because we look at ourselves every day so it is too gradual for us to notice. Take monthly pictures, take meassurments. I promise, the people around you are seeing it. As of my last appointment I had lost 47 pounds since surgery (September 21) and 30 prior to it. So 77 pounds total. Marie
