I just want to know if anyone else has any MAJOR gas problems and problems sitting in a regular chair. I have been having a major problem with this. I ALWAYS have gas and if I sit for more than 45 minutes to an hour, my midsection builds up so much gas that I am in extreme pain. I have been to my surgeon, who didn't think it was too important (I have given up on him, I'm very upset with this guy) and I have just gone for an upper G.I., which showed nothing (this thru my regular doc). This is definitely not in my head. It can't be the food I eat because I hardly eat anything since my pouch is always full of gas. I'm going to see a gastro doc on Monday, but in the meantime I was wondering if anyone else has either had or heard of this. This started around the same time that I had I a pretty bad kidney infection that took two rounds of antibiotics to get rid of, but my doc seems to think this has nothing to do with it since I am now finished with the antibiotics. Any feedback would be very much appreciated. Thanks so much, Cindy

Hi Cindy! Are you exercising? I found out really quick after surgery that if I didn't do some form of exercise each day I would end up having bad gas all day. It was painful, so after a few days of suffering I decided it was well worth it to get up and move. Just a suggestion. I hope you get this figured out. Hugs! Julia

I sometimes have issues with gas when I sit for a while. It hurts my sides. The only way I can get rid of it is to pass gas. Have you tried gas-x or something like that? Mine isn't nearly as bad as yours and I think what you've been doing and what your planning on doing is your best bet. Some one will find out what's wrong with you. Sorry your surgeon isn't much help. I hope he wasn't like this the whole time. Best of luck to you Shannon

This is just a guess but I wonder if the 2 rounds of antibiotics didn't kill off some normal flora or normal bacteria in your intestines. I'm not sure what to do about this. I might try some yogurt with live cultures and see if that helps. Sorry you are having such a hard time. Sherry

Thanks guys for the help. Once I got laid up with the infection, I did stop walking for a while and now I'm trying to get my strength back to walk more. I go out each day and walk maybe 2 to 3 blocks. By the time I get back I am exhausted. I'm also having a real hard time eating. Almost everything I try to eat comes back up. I eat maybe 2 to 3 ounces a day, and I know that isn't enough. Also, I have absolutely no appetite. I have to remind myself to try and eat something. That I find is so weird, since prior to surgery I loved to cook gourmet meals for friends and family (and eat it also!). I also received a call from my doc a little while ago who said that my blood sugars were kind of high and that there was signs of infection in my urine sample. I am wondering if I still have a kidney infection? I will find out more on Monday. Again, thanks and God Bless, Cindy

Cynthia, I have had the same problem with food. I never want to eat. Can't eat hardly anything and always feel bad when I do. I am surviving off protien drinks. I eat maybe once a day, if that much. I know I won't survive like this. It makes me regret the surgery at times. I had mine on Sept 7th and have lost 73 lbs. I should be excited, but with the food problems it is difficult. I wish you luck and will pray for you.

Hi Cindy and all! ;) Bless your heart Cindy! No fun! I am so upset with your gastric bypass surgeon. HE should be doing something for you! Shame on him! Jerk! :O My bypass surgeon just saw me again on Tuesday. I called down there on Monday and they scheduled me right away for another endoscopy. (Look at my profile). Anyway, the area looked good but he still dialated and I do feel better. He says it looked good because that means no erosion from the massive heartburn I was having and there isn't a stricture. I did have some narrowing though and that small bit of dialating seems to help. I do have GI problems and boy, I couldn't take it anymore. Up with severe pain and heartburn that was so indescribable but to say like an elephant's leg was standing right between my breasts/my chest. I had to get up immediately or I paid even more dearly from it (vomiting up acid/bile). Anyway, Gas-X with Maalox or Maalox with Gas-x, either one, proves to be a God Send. I think you need to get some Gas-X. BUT, I also didn't have full relief, despite taking an extra prevacid presciption and a lot of antacids/antigas. So, I am now on two more medications: Protonix which is a lot stronger then the Prevacid, and do this 2 times a day and a liquid that I take 2 tsps. of 4 times a day (sorry, the bottle is downstairs and don't want to mess up typing in the wrong name of the drug). So, he is hoping this calms everything down and allows me to heal more. Even though it all looks good, he is listening to my symptoms and acting accordingly. I was told taht I would be off my Prevacid one month post WLS. But, that isn't the case. At least I can try this now and hope it helps. I noticed that I can already burp and pass gas again! So, that is great so far. It is so awful to have all of that trapped inside you. oh the pressure and pain!!! :O UGH! So, Cindy, there is hope. I also have to fully fully fully agree with that post about the antibiotics doing something to the new little pouch of yours. They can reek havoc on someone without WLS and we have different acids now and break down abilities, so your poor tummy may not be able to heal from the bout of antibiotics but no one can SEE something wrong. So, yes, do lots of yogurt ( I like Yoplait Ultra ) and also discussing this with that gastro doc. might hit a cord with him. I sure hope your gastro. doc has insight in to WLS. Again, your WLS surgeon should be dealing with this. What a shame. So, I bet it is the 'chemical' changes in your tummy/GI tract from the antibiotics that is causing a lot of this. Either way, you have this problem and it has to be treated. Good for you for not letting your surgeon depict continued poor care and that you are taking it in to your own hands. GOOD LUCK! It could be too that a simple pill of Diflucan could help rebalance things in your tummy. ? It is so frustrating when we eat well and have waited so long to go to bed or sit down, etc. and we follow all protocols and still have tummy/gas/heartburn/etc. upset. :O That stinks. GOOD LUCK TO YOU! MY VERY BEST! Thoughts and Prayers! Gosh, I sure hope you don't still have the kidney infection. Bless your heart. Gas-X is the very best! I lived off of them for the last couple of days and since the endoscopy haven't had to have one! Love, M
