NEED SOME ENCOURAGEMENT!!!
I had my RNY surgery on September 14, 2004. I have lost 31 pounds since surgery. I feel that I am a slow loser and I am trying not to compare myself with others, but it is hard not to. Perhaps I am eating too much. I am having head hunger alot. I have been able to tolerate everything I have eaten so far. I have not been sick any at all, which I am thankful for. I am so afraid of failing like all of the times before. I know I need to exercise more and record every thing I am eating. I eat about 800 calories a day. Is this too much? I weigh 234, when I started the whole process I weighed 300. Please help me!
Hi Sheila, I had my surgery one week after you and have lost 40 pounds as of 11/11. I think that you are doing fine. Just like you I tolerate most foods very well and also don't get sick like some, and I am very thankful. Don't stress yourself out, from what you wrote overall you have lost 66 pounds, pat yourself on your back for your accomplishments. Good luck on your journey
September 21, down 38 lbs.. but as of a week ago that would have been 34. I plateau every 10 pounds for a week or more.. I was at 240 for almost 2 weeks before it broke and since I've lost the 4 pounds (just this week). So don't feel bad. It's very frustrating. Your body could be in survival mode - it thinks your starving and wants to save the fat, and/or you could be having hormonal changes that are causing retention. I think I'm suffering form both. To help, my husband and I just purchased recumbent trikes to go riding at the county park next door to our housing complex. We'll have to see if my weight loss speeds up. Remember it doesn't matter how fast you get to the finish line, just that you get there.
I think your doing pretty good. My surgeon told us if the weight loss slows or is slow you should cut down on the calories. I am not sure if I am doing it right but I am on a 500-600 calorie diet. I have to be totally honest, I am lucky if I make it to 400 calories. I am very very very bad with my calorie intake. I am trying to figure out something better for myself but food makes me sick. Sometimes I get really bad head hunger. I will eat something, be totally full and then all the sudden my head is YELLING at me to eat some more, just a little more, a little more can't hurt. But then my stomcah YELLS even louder, no freaking way, if you eat another bite your going to be sick and not to mention you know your full so why are you even going to attempt to take another bite? Most of the time my tummy wins but sometimes my head wins and I pay for it.

I think you are right on target. Do not get discouraged You are coming alone nicely. I can only get in 400-500 calories a day. Protein is a must for weight loss and liquiods. I exercise swimming 30 min 2 or 3 times a week I have bad knees so walking doesn't work. At 10 weeks I am -40 which is slow compaired to some others. I have never lost this much weight in ten weeks. Nothing is going to discourage me. I do not weigh but twice a week because the scales seemed to not be moving. Please enjoy were you are. Head hunger will always be a problem. Try to have something ready to eat when it starts or get busy doing something. Please keep in touch Chin up Dolores
Hi Sheila,
I am losing about the same rate as you. I eat between 750 to 1100 calories a day. I am losing about 10 lbs a month. I get nervous about it too, but my doctor is happy with my rate of loss. I started at 228, tomorrow is 11 wks out for me, and I am 187 now. 41 lbs down. I've said this a bunch of times before, but I find that fitday gives me peace of mind. I've heard many people eating around 400 calories, but usually those folks are having issues with being able to eat enough. I've also heard many doctors advice to eat between 800 and 1200 to have optimal weight loss. If you are not feeling sick, it is a good thing. That's why you are able to consume more calories. You do have to confront the head hunger, however, and make sure that you are exercising enough and only putting quality calories in. Protein first, then veggies, minimal carbs. Plenty of water between meals, no drinking with meals. You are doing awesome, look at your numbers!!! From 300 lbs you are almost in the one hundreds!!!! One other thing to keep in mind, if you lost weight before surgery, which you did, then you aren't going to see as dramatic numbers as some because you don't have tha****er weight which comprises a big initial loss. Keep up your good work, you are doing fine!

I had my surgery in sept and at my 8 wks apt I was down -53 lbs. But my surgeon has a more strict diet than others I have seen. This may help you quite a bit. Cut your carbs down or out completely. No beans, no mashed potatoes, yogurt... things that most people eat. It kills your diet. Carbs = fat. It will really slow you down. We are only .... and I mean ONLY allowed to eat protein. THis means any fish, eggs, cheese or meat other than red meat. You can eat any kind of dressing or mayo (no fat free stuff) to dress things up. No breads cereals .. nothing but this. I have only eaten this since released from liquid diet. And I drop pretty fast.
The other thing, Prepare your mind. Alot of us realise that this is a physical transformation, but completley forget that half the battle is mental. You must overcome and destroy your mental demons so to speak or after the loss , you could gain it right back. It is a forever lifestyle change. You have to keep telling yourself that. Set goals for yourself, reward yourself. This may help as well. I know when I hit my 100#'s I am going to get a new hair do. I so want to now , but if I just go do it ....then I have nothing to work towards. Do something like that maybe? Try to work out at least 3 times a week for 30 min . You will feel so much better when you up your work out times.
Keep it in your mind , that if you want something bad enough....You could do anything. And nothing will get in your way. You will be fine I am sure
