Sorry I have not been around but I had a really rough time after my surgery and spent 5 days in ICU. So for the first 4 weeks I was miserable and had zero energy and was on complete liquid diet but I lost 23 lbs. At this appt. my surgon changed me to pureed foods I went back 2 weeks later and was down 7 more lbs. And they moved me to regular foods and I'm doing really well on everything. I can even eat chicken !!!! How is everyone else doing ????? Laura 238/204/135

Hi Laura! OMG, you had a terrible time! I'm so sorry! I hope that you're 100% better and on your way! My surgery ended up lasting SIX HOURS! They took my gallbladder, and had to do a hernia repair, which ended up HORRIBLE. They found 5 of them (from 2 past c-sections) and they were a bear to fix. I had a terrible time - mostly emotionally, but also throwing up/vomiting for the first 4 weeks. Now, I'm pretty much 'normal' - or as 'normal' as I can be. I'm eating almost anything (except sugars of course), in very small amounts. Chicken sucks. Never seems to sit right. I'm down 45 lbs as of last Friday. I can't see it myself, although I can tell in some clothes, and the way seats fit etc...

Hi gals. I was on 9/21 as well. I'm sorry to hear you both had such problems. Things have been suprisingly easy for me. I'm kind of waiting for the other shoe to drop because it almost seems too good. I haven't weighed since my 1 month appointment, I don't even have a scale, but I can tell with my clothes and things. At one month I was down 30. We'll see where we are at my 2 month on the 24th. They tell me it won't be as much, but part of me still hopes it'll be big numbers. Emotionally I have ups and downs, this "new life" certainly isn't easy. This is the first week I'm back to work full time and I am throughly exhausted. Marie

Hi Laura, I'm a 9/22 surgery, but had a bad time too! I spent 5 days in ICU and 11 in the hospital. I also went home on a feeding tube. I'm better now, can't do chicken either! I'm down 35# to day and very happy. I still have swelling and pain just under my right rib, suppose its my liver where they had to move it around. They tell me its nothing to worry about. I still can't seem to get up the steam to exercise. Are you doing anything but walking, I walk to the corner and back 4 times a day. Good luck! Rosey

Greeting to all my surgery buddies! Everything has been going smoothly for me right from the beginning. I am now on regular foods minus the breads & pastas. I saw my Dr. yesterday and I have lost a total of 40 lbs. I have been at a stall since last week and the Dr. told me that this is when I went back to work and since I have not been getting all my water in that this plays an important role in losing the pounds. I am so sorry that some of you have had a terrible time but I do hope that all will go smoothly for you now. I am up to eating 4-6 oz but no more than that Dr.'s orders. Chicken has not been sitting well with me since the last two times I made it, but yesterday I was told to try again. Dr. told me to eat chicken thighs rather than breasts because it is moister and will go down better. I also found a very good tasting BBQ sauce today--NO SUGAR! Carb options/Hickory flavor. Going to try it tonight with my chicken thigh! Just nervous that the chicken will still have a negative reaction. My vitamins have changed from Flintstone's chewable to PRE-NATAL! Dr. told me I could take Centrum or Women's one a day and then I asked about pre-natal because they have everything in it. She said there are people who take pre-natal vitamins so I asked for a prescription. Instead of taking one a day like I did when I was pregnant (many moons ago) I am instructed to take two a day. I figured that maybe when the hair loss thing starts it may help me out in that departement. I am hoping to reach my first goal by Christmas. I want to lose another 25 lbs to reach 200 lbs. I have three goals set for myself. 200 lbs, 150 lbs, 120-130 lbs final goal. I look at every five pounds lost as one bag of sugar. So far I have lost eight bags of sugar!!!! Well, I guess I have gabbed enough for now and will let someone else have a chance. Take care and lets all keep in touch like this monthly so we can share our journey with each other for the current month! Does this sound good to the rest of you???? If so--besides chatting on the September boards I will catch you all here in the 9/21/04 WLS People thread! Have a great Thanksgiving!!! WE CAN EAT TURKEY! Gobble-Gobble-Gobble! Hugs Marianne

I'm another 9/21 surgery. Sorry for you that had problems with the surgery. Hope you're doing better now. I was extremely nauseous for the first 5 weeks and could barely eat or drink anything. Then as if someone turned off a switch, everything is fine. I'm lucky that I've not had any vomiting. I have not found anything that does not agree with me although I've not tried any sugars. My weight loss is slow, I think. I'm down 24 pounds. I'm told that because of being over 50 it can be slower but this seems a little too slow. It doesn't seem to be going anywhere right now though. I am exercising with a trainer so that may make some difference......I can only hope! Candy
