Concerned About Food Intake

Here's a sample: Breakfast - Either a protein shake or a one egg omelet with a slice of low carb turkey lunchmeat and some shredded cheddar. Lunch - Either a protein bar or 1/2 cup of cottage cheese, with 4oz carton of carb control yogurt. Dinner - Either another protein drink or refried beans or pinto beans and cheese with a regular Taco from Taco bell, or a piece of chicken with a few teaspoons of mashed potatoes made in broth, or something like that. Everything I make fits 'within' the size of the saucer I'm using. What do you think? Did I stretch my pouch? Am I eating too much? I ask because I just ate a 1 egg omelet with the slice of turkey lunchmeat and cheddar cheese - the whole thing - and I feel fine. I feel like I wasn't supposed to have eaten the whole thing. It took about 35 minutes to fini**** I really could use some input here, because if I'm eating too much then what did I do wrong? Johanna

hi johanna, i think that the common wisdom is to follow your surgeon/nutritionist's food plan. that being said... sometimes i can eat two scrambled or hard-boiled eggs and sometimes i can't finish one. also, sometimes i can tolerate cheese and sometimes not. in my 3rd - 5th week, i would melt cheese into scrambled eggs and eat with some marinara sauce. now i cannot tolerate that. and i cannot tolerate turkey slices at all (i don't eat other meats). so what you are eating now may change. i believe i read that as our pouches heal, we get the 'full' feeling faster and we may eat less. i do wonder about the 1/2 C of cottage cheese plus the 1/2 C of yogurt for the same meal. that's 1 Cup of food which i think is alot for this stage. did you mean that you have 8 oz of dairy? also, i am supposed to have 3 meals and 3 snacks (which is hard to do). maybe if you split up your meals. it sounds like you are getting alot of protein - are you hitting your protein numbers? - maybe you can have snacks of vegie juice or fruit, etc and you may not eat as much at your meals. just a thought. in any case, i bet you did not stretch out your pouch. i think that's hard to do unless you abuse it. susan

I'm pretty good at getting my protein and I am usually short about 16oz on the water. The yogurt would be considered more of a snack than a lunch, and I often get a few crackers with peanut butter (or I'll spread it on an apple) in the late evening. Yeah, I don't think I stretched it either, and I think you're also right that I may not even like what I'm eating in a week or so...or maybe days! Johanna

hi johanna, i also meant to say that i believe that soft foods vs solids make a difference. you can probably eat more soft foods (the cottage cheese, the yogurt, maybe eggs) than solids. susan

It is all in what your dr says...I am still 3 oz's and i measure with those lil pill cups...most times i can not eat it all...like if i had 2 oz of tuna salad and 3 crakers...that was my breakfast this morning...I can not stomach the idea of an egg right now...now it it were 3 oz of soup i can eat it all and i have like 5 more weeks of 3 oz's...and i am going on 8 weeks...

My diet is very similar to yours, almost exactly. I have been able to tolerate everything I have tried. I do have to eat slower with some things, but overall, I am getting everything down fine. I haven't thrown-up yet and even Chicken agrees well with me. I have stayed away from fried foods and sugar, as I don't want to know if I have dumping syndrome. I was scared at first, but my cals, protein and carbs are right on the money. I think you are doing fine! Kell
