Who's Had A Stricture?

Hi, Will be calling my doctor tomorrow to check on why I have difficulty with certain foods. I can eat cottage cheese, my protein drink(in the mornign), and a majority of soft foods with no problem. They pass comfortably. But there are other times when I KNOW I've eaten carefully(a piece of warm chicken, protein energy bar, etc), and yet I can feel the food sitting at the bottom of my throat - just sitting there. If I wait for about 10-15 minutes, it passes with no problem. I'm not having problems with my bowels though, I take two tablespoons of benefiber every three days or so, and I sort of have stools every other day. Maybe it's not a stricture? Maybe I'm just not ready to have solids yet? Johanna

I was kinda having that problem...and i know tomato sauce is some of the problem and getting all those vitamins in...I went back on the liquid diet but still had a problem when i ate...So i was set up for an upper GI..and that was fine...So they think i was just irratated and now i am fine...BUT you are so now time for scar tissue..

I'm lost on the last part of your post, sweet tweety. "But you are so now time for scar tissue?" And are you also saying that tomatoe sauce irritated your throat? That's interesting, because I made Chicken parmesean this weekend, and I'm a total sauce addict. I had some yesterday and the day before. Johanna JOhanna

I had a stricture two weeks ago. If you do have one the procedure to fix it is a breeze. I was able to take in liquids and pudding but nothing else

hi, Went to see the doc today, and I'm fine. It looks like it was the tomatoes sauce after all. The doc says it might be something int he acidity, but he's had people who couldn't do the sauce till later on down the line. Anyway, I've been eating and I've had NO PROBLEMS with swallowing at all! The gravy from the swedish meatballs doesn't affect my throat, and the doc says I'm doing fine otherwise. I'll be keeping an eye out though. Is a stricture inevitable? Do some get by without one? i have had a stricture actually two now i go tomorrow for the second dilation. (upper gi). the first time i had it was really bad cause i was not keeping anything down not even water i was dehydrated and had to be admitted back in the hospital. but after the procedure it was great i felt so much better and now i am keeping fluids down clear liquids but then when i try and have something else it hurts and feels thought it is sitting at the bottom of my chest. but you can be pretty sure you have one when you feel the need to vomit and you spit up alot of foam through out the day and after eating things. just wanted to share that story glad you are ok thought.
