Hi Everyone! I'm over 5 weeks post-op and have been stalled for the past 10 days. I was down 25 pounds at my 4 week follow-up and have been stalled there ever since. That was also the day that I was given the ok to move from liquids to soft/solids foods. I did have a visit from aunt flow, but now I'm 2 days past that and the scale is still stuck on the same number. I'm not feeling much difference in my waist either since my jeans feel about the same. I am faithful about taking my vitamins, drinking 64oz of water a day and I exercise at least 5 times a week for 45-60 minutes. I'm a distal, so I also get 4 protein drinks in a day for a total of 120 grams of protein. I am getting 3-4 small meals a day. I try to eat mainly protein and am trying to stay within the shot glass portion size of 1.5 - 2 oz. My question is...Is there anything else that I can do to get past this stall? I think I'm just scared and would love to hear how all of you got past this. Thanks! Julia

Hey Julia, I am in the same boat. I am down 35lbs and not moving. In fact my pants have started to feel tight again. I am going to really push the water and walk more and see what happens. Hopefully the scale will move again. So Aggrivting. Em

Wow, it sounds like you are doing really good. I cannot get 64oz of water a day, I struggle to get 40+. The only thing I would reccommend would be to cut out 1-2 protein shakes. My Dr said my daily goal should be 40-60g. You are WAY over that, so you are safe w/ protein. All those shakes add a lot of calories so you might see a difference that way. Most shakes have around 200 calories, I get 300-500 ALL DAY, sounds like you have to be close to/over 1000 calories each day. Good Luck! Carmen

Hi Carmen! I'm a distal RNY so I have to get between 120 and 150 grams of protein a day so my doctor requires 4-5 protein shakes a day since I can't count on my body to absorb protein from food. Cutting out protein shakes is not an option. Julia

Just a few quick thoughts: Are you making the shakes with milk or water? If milk - fat free? With all the exercise you are doing, you are gaining muscle mass and that's why the scale could look like it's stalling. Also.. water retention.. Do you feel bloated? That would also affect the scale negatively. How many carbs are in the shakes... what mix are you using? Do you have the option of a higher protein shake mix and in this way decrease the number of shakes you have to do in a day? I told my husband what you are in taking and he can't believe it (neither can I). You have to be gaining muscle mass. And HOW are you getting in 5 shakes AND 64oz of water? That's just baffling us! Way to go! but wow! CR

Hi Christina! I make my shakes with water as my doctor has a strict policy against milk and sugar. I have been using two different shakes Nectar Fuzzy Navel which has 135 calories and 0 carbs and Champion Whey Stack Chocolate which has 180 calories and 6 carbs. I have to admit that I like the chocolate way better and it's probably because of the carbs. I've also been instructed not to try to do more than 30grams of protein at a time because our bodies can't absorb any more than that. I'm hoping that this is just a stall and that my body is just holding on to the fat for dear life. I don't think I'm retaining water because my ankles have never looked better or thinner! I guess I'll just have to have patience and continue my exercising. As for drinking, I've never had any trouble drinking normally. I of course can not gulp it down like I used to, but I can drink it at a pretty good pace. Here's a sample of my average day: 16oz water w/vitamins Protein Shake Breakfast: Today Half of an Atkins Great Start Cinnabun Breakfast Bar --Sometimes I have a half a pack of instant oatmeal or an egg. 16oz water w/vitamins Protein Shake Lunch: Today less than 1/2 cup lentil chili -- Sometimes I just have 2 string cheese or a bit of cottage cheese. 16oz water Protein Shake Dinner: Today less than 1/2 cup lentil chili -- Typically a bit of whatever my family is eatting like I had 2 meatballs the other night but I always try to eat mainly protein and veggies and keep it to less than 1/2 cup. 16oz water w/vitamins Protein Shake Snack: 1/4 cup Peanuts or 1tsp Peanut Butter or Sunflower Seeds or a string cheese I have my 8 week follow-up on the 17th and if this hasn't passed then my doctor and I are going to have to have a very serious discussion! Thanks! Julia
