Why is it that soooooo many people "view" posts but not everyone replys??? Anyways, the reason for my post is now that I can have anything, I'm wondering what I can have??? Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner & Snacks. My protein supplements are filling me up so quickly that I am barely getting in 30 grams. (I know I know) My wife is going to try and get me a different kind. The one food that I am REALLY craving is salad. So, can I have it? Isn't the lettuce hard to digest? Can I have a hamburger? I thought it has to be low carbs, how can I have the roll? What about pasta? As you can tell, I am TOTALLY CONFUSED! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE...EVERYONE...HELP ME! Thanks, Mike

I make my protein shakes with NF milk. That makes each shake a total of 30 gms protein. Just one shake a day helps out quite a bit in getting all my protein in. My doc still has me on full liquids so I don't have much more advice than that. I'm looking forward to real foods myself. Explore carefully and keep track on fitday.com. Blessings! Nancy

The second best thing in the world to happen to a WLS patient is the Atkins diet. This is not because it works, it didn't for me, but it is here to stay and the manufacturers are responding. For just about everything you can imagine there is a "Carb Friendly" option. Most stores have this food on the shelf with the full carb option, but others have it off on an aisle by itself. I haven't tried the salad yet, but I bought some lettuce to give it a try. First of all try to find the lowest sugar (carb) bread you can find. Take the top of the bun and feed it to the poor starving birds outside. Then have your hamburger "open face" trust me it still tastes the same, and you will get more protein because you won't be filling your pouch with bread. Another thing to remember, and I only say this because I have such a problem with it myself, is watch portion sizes. If you can eat 1/4 to 1/2 cup of food and the food you are looking at has 10 g of sugar per serving but the serving size is 1 cup, hey guess what that means only 5 g per 1/2 cup or 2.5 g per 1/4 cup.

I started on salads this week. I just cut the lettuce up very small, and of course chew, chew, chew. I have been enjoying them very much with out any problems. I use the weigh****chers trick keeping the dressing on the side and dipping a emply fork into the dressing before picking up the lettuce. I have tried both chicken and beef (taco seasoned) with the lettuce. I can only eat about a 1/2 cup total though, so I make sure to get enough of the meat in for the protein. Guod Luck!

Lots of people don't reply because good answers have all ready been given!! And some times it is just nice to lurk and read and get hints or ideas!! I am hungry for salad too, but can't have it yet. I will get the go ahead for the fresh fruits and veggies when I next have a checkup on 11/8. I hope I can make it to then lol. But I must admit the muchy stuff does still settle well with no back talk like I have gotten from some things--yuck!! I may never eat an egg again lol. Be aware of pasta, it seems to grow in the pouch and wants to pop back up too. I have only tied it once byt my friend who had this last year said it was the same way with her. I did eat the cheese out of manaconti last night at an Italian Rest. and mixed with the tomato sauce, it was great! I have not found a protien drink I can stomach yet so I am no help there. I am just trying to make sure that what I eat is as much protein as possibe until things improve and I find that magic drink I can tolerate. I do like some of the bars!! Sharon

The firt time I tried an egg I thought I was going to die. That was about a month ago, and now I have no problem with them. I prefer to have them poached medium. I must be one of the lucky ones, because pasta has never bothered me. A big help in getting the protein in if you can't handle the shakes is eating a lot of fish. They probably have the biggest bang for the buck so to speak. Another great source is the Carb Countdown Chocolate Milk. It taste great and has 12 grams of protein.

Hi Mike! I am in the same boat as you. Now that I can pretty much eat again, I am not sure what to eat?! I do a slimfast in the am, tuna or turkey and cottage cheese for lunch, string cheese and 9 mini pretzels for a snack, and then anything with meat and no bread for dinner. I like to make lettuce wraps with turkey and cheese rolled up in a big leaf of lettuce. My husband calls it a "hand sandwich" b/c there is no bread. I just cannot tolerate bread, but I am going to try a tortilla tonight. Wish me well, and good luck! -KT

I had a grilled chicken and spinach salad from Subway for dinner tonight. I tolerate lettuce no problem at all. I haven't attempted to eat anything fried at all so I'm not help on the hamburger question. I've been making a lot of meals in my crockpot. Last week I made a very meat rich spagetti sauce. I ate it with a little bit of mozzarella and parmesean cheese and no pasta. Carb Countdown is yummy. I tried to dissolve some non-fat powdered milk in it to bump up the protein count but it wouldn't dissolve. It stayed chunky. It was nasty. LOL I'm having a hard time getting all of my protein and water in. I just don't feel like there's ever any room and I'm rarely hungry. I thought the not hungry feeling would go away by now... -Carrie DJ Vixen on www.freakradio.net

Hey Mile ;-D I am having eating all that I should, so I have this fairly tastless protein pwoder and I put it in a lot, just asprinkle, to help me get more protein until I can eat better. I use it in scrambled eggs, on oatmeal, in my sugarfree pudding, in chicken and tuna salad. I figure that , like Brylcream .. a little dab will do ya". (of course you are probbly no old enough to remember that , LOL) I have to search every day for stuff I can eat, even now I am a pickey eater. As for salad, you will have to try. Just remember very snall bites and chew , chew, chew. Hang in there !! Kath
