on scales.... i have been here since april and i see numerous times a day about "throw away the scales, take out the battery, give it too a friend.... " well those are fine suggestions but really people, Its not the cure for all the answers for a stall or a plateau.... i will be honest I WEIGH EVERY MORNING....lol it keeps me updated.... i dont obess over the weight... it tells me when aunt flow is leavin when she is commin if i am stressin and i need to calm down with life... it tells me hey ur not losin wt ...so check ur inches... the scale can be a friend or foe... if your weighin everytime ya go to the potty... then u have a problem... if you want to pack them with you when ya go on a trip... ya have a problem... but people the scale is not the Now i know that i am goin to get some responses to what i just wrote and thats k bc i know that i dont over do it on the scale... Some will even say that my reasons for weighin every mornin is excuses and thats k too but really if you really cant handle scales you need some help we are grown up... they thought that we were mentally stable to have this surg maybe they should do a psych eval on what we think about scales... These are my thoughts.... no one forced me to post this... and if i get flamed so be it... I am not goin to change my mind ... Manda ~56 lbs 09-09-04

Hey Manda... I had to at this because I have weighed myself after going to the bathroom if it's been several days since I had gone just out of curiosity. It was actually my hubby's idea, as a joke. PS- I lost 1.5lbs after I was finished. -Carrie DJ Vixen on www.freakradio.net

We each gotta decide about the scale. You summed much of it up well. I'm borderline neurotic about it and should probably lay off it. You sound like you've got a fine attitude about it! Kudos! Congrats on your WL!! Nan

I agree that the scales are an individualized thing. I have never found an electronic scale, other than the professional grade that was accurate. I use the balance arm scales at the YMCA and weigh myself almost daily before my workouts. So far I haven't hit a plateau, but I am expecting one any day now. The problem alot of people have when they weigh daily is not understanding the fluctations of weight. Some people will freak out over a 1-5 lb weight gain, which is entirely possible even with this surgery. They don't take into consideration factors like time of day, whether they have eaten anything, or more importantly if they have just drunk. Water weight is a very devious critter. What may look like a weight gain, could easily be a loss after a trip to the bathroom. My general rule of thumb is if the scales make you feel worse than you did before you got on them, chunk them. For me it reminds me how remarkable my results are. I don't look at the scale and say "Oh I weigh 225 today and I weighed 226 yesterday." I say "Ooooohhhhh I way 225 today and used to way 280."
