Gotta Buy New Jeans

Looks like I can't wear these jeans anymore. They're the same ones I had prior to surgery, and only a few months old. I've been trying to convince myself that I could still wear them, but it's clear that they're too big for me. I'm swimming in them. The fact that my stomach holds them up won't be true in another week, and they just hang like two huge denim tubes around my legs and hips. I actually felt stupid tonight at church, thinking I looked like those kids who were pants 10 times their size, only I didn't have a belt and I don't rap!LOL I just wish I didn'thave to buy them. I really wanted to save money and buy them when I loss around 75 pounds. Why? Why else? Money. Anyone else finding themselves having to head to the store? Any alternatives? Johanna K.

Johanna, There are some nice drawstring waist or elastic waist stretch pants. Get the ones that have a bit of a flare at the bottom, not the yukky old legging style. These will take you down through several sizes. Also, I know alot of people hit thrift stores and get great deals on name brands for next to nothing. I agree with you, I do not want to spend thirty dollars or more for something that will only fit me for a month or so. But it's a good problem to have, no? (so far I've got a few sizes below mine because I gained so much weight last year... can't wait to need an even SMALLER size!) Love, Sue

I think I'll look into that, especially for around the house. At least at the thrift stores I won't be wasting clothes, right? Thanks for the suggestion! JOhanna

Well isn't that horrible. LOL j/k You must feel great. I myself can't afford shopping every single time my clothing gets to big so I have decided to go shoping at a local thrift store. I figure that way I won't spend loads of money and if they get big to fast I won't care. But, wtg to you. Your doing great.... Shannon

Yeah, it does feel great, but it's also a little embarassing. You see, the church doesn't know I had the operation!lol So, my walking in there like that was like...wierd. Still, it's good to know the weight is falling off. The thrift will be a good place for me right now. I'll have to look at doing something with the clothes I have now. Some of them are really, really, nice things that I just purchased from Roaman's and LB's over the last 6 months. I still have two coats, one that I've never worn that I bought last year on sale, thinking it would be great this year!LOL My favorite is a purple suede jacket I purchased from Roaman's two years ago. It's my signature jacket, so I'm going to have to buy a new one when I get to the "right" size. JOhanna

Thrift shopping is where its at!!! beautiful clothes there and in INDY the Goodwills have a certain color tag each week is 1/2 off..now at least with the plus sizes they are together...looks like a more tiresome time once you are in the regular size...I got this beautiful yellow sweater still had new tags on it...all for the low low price of 1.75...

I don't mind having to buy new jeans, I can get jeans at Wally World for $10 a pair. What I hate is the $750 suit I bought a year ago and used for 3 interviews, and now it looks like a clown suit. I have been having to try to piece together pants and shirts from every source I can find. The sad part about the suit is it was tailored to fit, so the odds of finding someone out their that I could re-sale to is unlikely. Another good point is smaller clothes costs less. I am now down to an XL shirt and it is wonderful not having to pay the extra for a 3X. My wife who is about 2 years post op from VBG and down about 105 lbs, finally realized that she didn't have to shop in the Womens section and can find much cheaper clothes on the "Regular" racks.

CONGRATULATIONS Johanna! My wife recently bought me some clothes at target and got me like 4 outfits...one pair of jeans, 3 shirts, 2 sweatpants, underwear, all for like $45.00 If your local thrift store doesn't have anything in your size or your liking try a low end store like wal-mart, target or k-mart. Hope this helps! Mike

I second Mike!!! Wal-Mart, Target and sales racks baby for what I call the 'tweeners' (short for in-between starting and goal weight). Shopping is a good thing! Kell
