It's been 33 days!
It has been 33 days since my surgery and I had my one month check up yesterday. It has been an interesting 33 days. Just to up date you all, my surgery was over 6 hours long, 24 hours in recovery, 4 days in intensive care, and then on to a regular room. The second day in the regular room (day 7) I had the leak test and I was deemed ok but they wanted to wait an additional day for me to have water. Then it was on to full liquid. The day I came home I went to full liquid and am now on pureed food. Also for the first two weeks at home I was feed each night through a feeding tube. I still have home health care Nurses twice a day to pack my wound as part of my incision is open. It is healing nicely.
Yesterday I had my one month check up. It seems that everything is going as scheduled. I have lost 12 pounds by their estimate but it is actually 25 pounds as I gained a few pounds the two months before surgery. My liver tests showed that my liver is in good condition, a thing they worried about because of the old surgery. I had some scaring and a slightly fatty liver, nothing to worry about I was told. Just to make sure that things stay on track I have to see a liver specialist in 2 months and then have my liver tested every 4 months for 2 years. They also removed the feeding tube. I had another tube that I have no idea what the use was that also needed to come out. Well it wouldn't. Just my luck. Try as they did, it just wouldn't come out! I had another appointment for next week to try again and if they couldn't get it out them I world have to go to surgery to get it removed! This morning when the HHC Nurse was here she gave it a slight pull and out it came! What a relief.
Now for the kidney stuff, the real reason for the revision. Everything looks well right now. I will take a 24 hour urine test on Sunday. It takes about 3 weeks for the study to be done and we will see if the kidney disease has slowed down or stopped. They are going to change my nephro-stent (the tube coming out of my back) in two weeks to give me more time to heal so they can start working on the kidney! I'm hoping to be up and running by Christmas! It will be wonderful to get on with my life.
