Something my surgeon said

I know we are all intelligent people here but my surgeon said something the other night at our monthly support group meeting and I wanted to share it here. He said that if at any time we have anything wrong and aren't sure if it is WLS related or not to go see him. He said he will check us out and if he feels it isn't related to the WLS he will let us know and suggest what to do. The reason he brought it up is because on a few occasions he has seen patients with the following issues. One lady came to see him asking him if she should have stopped her vitamins or not? He told her of course not because you need them etc... So she said that she was having a problem and went to see her PCP who wasn't really in tune with the things her surgeon was doing. What ever was wrong he decided to tell her it was because of the vitamins and thus she stopped taking them. She told my surgeon she hadn't taken them in months. He was upset because that is something that can harm her in the future. On another occasion he had another patient who had pains in her side. Instead of calling him she went to another doctor to see what is could be. When they didn't find anything she finally called Dr. Phol (my surgeon) only to find out that she had a bowel obstruction and it ended up becoming very serious because she waited so long to see him. The point of this is to remind us all that when something comes up we shouldn't feel scared to call and get it checked out. Most of the time I am sure it is nothing but since we've all come this far it would be awful to not follow through with everything and insure that we will all be here for many years to come. Shannon
