Protein/Shake problems
We used the Revival Soy while we had to do 3 shakes a day, 2 weeks pre-op. Now, the most I can handle is about a third of a chocolate packet mixed in Sugar free chocolate pudding. At least this way we are getting 'some' more protein. Although, I can only eat a little at a time.
After surgery, my husband could handle the shakes over time, but they made me sick. So I tried the Isopure bottled drinks, I was ok for a few days, and then those started to make me sick. So far only food protein: eggs, chicken, turkey, cheese, and shrimp have been agreeable to my system. I know that milk (except for cheese) even though it is Lactose free, is for some reason, hard on my system. Also, I seem to be very sensitive to sugar. I don't really get dumping, just a nauseous feeling.
Protein intake: about 35g a day... should be 60g a day.
Anyone have suggestions on reaching our goal?
I'm on Revival Soy now, and for the most part I'm having no problems. Thanks for the suggestion of adding it to my pudding. Is that instant of regular cooked? And do you notice any graininess or anything?
As for increase, perhaps you should try to make up the protein with bars and/or smoothies where you can the protein in the drink. Right now, I only take the shake in the morning, then I move into eating low carb yogurt, peanut butter and crackers, cottage cheese, string cheese and foods with "some" protein to round out the day. I'm actually surprised when I find that I'm closer to the 60 grams than what I figured. I seem to be around 57 or so.
You can also make protein balls using the protein powder which will give you some of that protein!!
The rest is taste and see, don't you think?

P.S. As far as taste changing, I can't STAND jello and Crystal lite Peach drink anymore!!!
the carb count down may work for you...i am sick of it...i have tried what was said to be flavorless protein powder...and some whey...that stuff is so thick i need to cut it not drink it...I am over that as well....I bet i am not even getting 60 grams in a day..and that is with being sure i eat protein at each meal...3 ounces is sure not much 3x a day...I did get in 45 yesterday then what i ate..
I am having the same problem. The protein powders make me sick. I can't even think about having them without the nausea. What I have been doing to help get the protein in is eating cold, boiled shrimp. It seems to agree well with me. I mix a little low carb ketsup with a little hot chinese mustard to dip it in...yummy...3 oz. has 17 g protein! I make up little baggies and take them to school with me. I have 6 oz. in a bag, so I try to get them down throughout the day. If I succeed, I have 34 grams in. I still make sure I get more in with having a low fat string cheese (8 g protein) at some point in the evening. Good luck....you all are doing so well!
I sometimes drink the Grape Frost bottled Isopure, but not every day... I have also found an unflavored protein powder that I really like, it's called Unjury. It mixes well in smoothies, yogurt, mashed potatoes, soups. Most of the time I can't tell it's there and has 20g per scoop! I have also found a couple drinks from Nectar that I like. The Roadside Lemonade and Crystal Sky (tastes like fruit punch) are very good and have no aftertaste! I went to bariatriceating.com and ordered a bunch of samples so I can find something I like..... can't handle vanilla or chocolate anything!
Good luck
Carmen
