Hello all I was wondering about doing sit-ups or any stomach flattening exercise. What is the time frame inwhich I can start doing sit-ups again. I am now in my 5th week and walk an hour a day but have not done any strenuous stomach exercise. Is there a certain time when it is safe to begin sit-ups? Beth

I would ask your surgeon before doing sit ups. I know my doc usually releases patients to full exercise at six weeks and that is for open RNY

HELLO BETH I had a closed rny and my Doctor told me about 6 weeks only if I don't experience pain. You could also do some leg lifts and that will also tighten your stomach muscles. I am only 4 weeks out and I do the leg lifts and some scissor exercises and they seem to be ok on my stomach. Good Luck and Have a good day. Peggy

I'm with the others... check with your doc... the last thing you want is a hernia... my doc said nothing like until 12 weeks.
