How long to wait to drink after eating.....

Hello Sept. Surgery date family, I had my surgery on Sept. 2nd and am doing great. No dumping, no problems, and feel fantastic. I am just sending out a question to my fellow 'loosers' on how long they wait to drink any liquids after they eat a meal. I have had many many different directions from the doctor, the nutritionist, and then this board I also don't think I am getting enough liquids in. I am around 48 oz. or so a day. Any info from you would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mary 247/198/140

I was told 30 mintues. I am struggling with that one so I got myself an old fashioned kitchen timer, which I set for 30 minutes. When it goes off I know I can drink. I also use it as a reminder to drink, I set it for 15 minutes and bingo I aim for 2oz. Glad you are doing well. Keep up the fluids.

I was also told 30 mins we are supposed to drink 64 oz of water a day I dont hardley ever make it but I sure try keep up the good work

Hi Mary, Most of what I've read backs up the thirty minutes rule. I've seen some say one hour, and some say 15-20 minutes, but they seem to be in the minority. By the way, had to tell you welcome to ONEDERLAND! Congrats! ~Sue

I was told 30 mins before and 1 hour after. I can rarely wait that long, especially if I expect to get close to my water intake! Carmen
