My dietician says Flintstone vitamins are great for WLS patients. I don't like chewing them though. I take one vitamin and cru**** and mix it with 1 Tbsp of diet chocolate pudding. The orange and raspberry ones taste terrific mixed with the chocolate and the pudding helps it go down easier.

Sounds yummy. I take centrum chewables and I like them. I hate my calcium though. They are big a chalky and yucky. I have to finish them off though cause my hubby bought me 7 months worth and I don't want to be a witch about it. But once I am done with them I am trying viactive. Thanks though.... Shannon

Shannon, I take two chewable sugar free TUMS for my calcium. Hope this helps. Oh by the way, I am still taking my Iron and Biotin and regular meds through the feeding tube. How do you take it after the tube comes out? Thought I would ask, don't see Dr again till the 25th to have tube out.

I take the centrum rugrats too. I was told not to take whole vitamins as our body can't absorb as much. It passes through you too quick. I don't care for them but I force them down. Kell

Hi All! According to my nutritionist and the information I was given, Tums, Viactiv, OysterShell and Calcium Carbonate products are not absorbed by gastric bypass patients. Calcium Citrate products are recommended. I'm a distal and take 3000mg daily of Calcium Citrate with D and Magnesium. A Proximal is instructed to take half that. As for the multivitamin, I don't do chewables because they taste nasty. I take the big ones from Costco and have no problem swallowing them, but it does take me about 10 minutes to get each set of pills down since my pouch fills up so fast. Julia

I was also told to avoid TUMS, Viactiv, etc... because they are not absorbed and that it was a waste of money time and effort to even use them. I tried several chewables and just cannot do them... I am gagging on every bite. I found a liquigel type from the Vitamin Shoppe and they work great... I have had no trouble at all getting them down. The calcium is another story. I drink lots of milk so I am not really sweating the calcium right now.
