I am able to eat a lot more than I feel that I should be able to. I am only 2 1/2 weeks post-op and I am able to eat small meals such as 1/2 sm piece of baked fi****bsp of macoroni, and 1/4 c of green beans. And to add insult to injury I want to sip after the meal. Is it me or is there another living soul who can do this as well. Please help me to be successful Dani

Are you measuring out your foods and following the plan that your dr. put you on? I was always told to measure by VOLUME... and I have also found out that head hunger is pretty hard to deal with. Are you truly THAT hungry (hence the need to eat that much) or do you just THINK you are that hungry? One of the things that I am facing is that I don't need to eat as much as I think I need to eat. That is where those measuring cups come in handy. I think it is an automatic response to "think" that you need more... this might be the case for you... I don't know. When I eat things that are of a more liquid consistency (such as soup broth with NO added veggies/etc) I will take in around 1 cup or more... but I also count that as a liquid as well....as long as it isn't milk based (which my soups aren't).... are you also eating slowly? Very slowly?... I don't have a problem with drinking during the meal... so I usually kinda load up on liquids BEFORE my meal..around 30 mins. or so.... Best wishes and keep us posted! Sounds like you are eating very good foods and for that you get a Elizabeth~

hi dani, i had two thoughts - in terms of the sipping after your meal - i think it's possible you CAN sip but it's not good to do it because it washes the food out of your pouch and you don't get your nutrients. how long are you taking to eat your meal like the one you described (fish, macaroni and beans) - i think one can probably eat larger amounts but if your meal is over a long time (longer than 45 - 60 minutes) it's more like grazing, as i've heard it described. i was able to eat fish and digest it well about 2 weeks post-op, too. susan

I wasn't able to eat anything more the cottage cheese and an egg, plus liquids until I was 3 weeks out. If you are feeling a major need to sip then either load up prior to eating, or check the salt content in your foods. But if your able to eat "solids" then your really not eating a whole heck of a lot. I was told for lunch and dinner to have like 2 oz of a lean meat, 1/4 mashed potatoes and a veggy. Your basically doing that now. I see nothing wrong with it but you can always consult your nutritionist to be sure. Don't sip at all during your meals unless something isn't going down. I was told I can give a little sip to get things moving but you can wash that food right out of your pouch and that is how you can start to gain. I wish you the best....... Shannon

I have to take one sip after I eat just to clean my mouth. I have so many little particles from chewing chewing chewing and I have gotten choked on them a couple of times. So I allow myself that one sip and then thats it for my 30 mins.

I don't think I am eating enough. I am three weeks out and if I get thirsty after a meal, I have a popsicle until I can have water.
