Sorry...but what does PCP stand for?
Oh okay ...maybe it's an Canadian vs. American thing. Here people just say their MD - Medical Doctor. I can't remember what else we say here for our regular physician - there is one other acrynom (sp) but I can't remember what the other one is.
I have never heard PCP in my life. I wonder if other Canadians have. I know there are not many here though.
Thanx.
Hi Cherilyn,
The reason that PCP isn't used in Canada is that the term originated out of the American insurance companies. In other words, because of insurance standards, many Americans need to designate one doctor as their PCP, and this doctor sometimes becomes responsible for making referrals to other doctors. My mom, as an example, had a diabetes doctor (endocrineologist), a gynecologist, a nephrologist (kidneys) and a PCP, who she must see if she has any new issues.
