Hi Everybody. I am 5 going on 6 weeks out and for the past week and a half I have had the most horrendeous problems with gas. I actually went to the ER last Friday and went through a battery of tests and everything was good. My surgeon came by and she said that this should pass. But, no one could tell me what was causing the gas, maybe dairy? It's not just some things, it's EVERYTHING! Even water! I wake up in the morning so bloated and in so much pain I can't even get dressed. I walk around until I can actually sit down and have to wait until mid afternoon before I can even try to drink a little water and eat something. I've tried all kinds of remedies. Gas-X, Beano, warm compresses. Nothing helps except Hydrocodone. At least that lets me not care. I just don't want to keep taking that. I can't even go to work. Imagine all the different sounds that would come out of my cubicle. Has anyone else had this problem? This is totally freaking me out and I am driving my DH batty. Thanks, Cindy

try to go easy on the hydrocodone...it could slow your bowels drastically and cause severe constipation, which you obviously don't need now. Have you told your surgeon you're still having this extreme gas? Maybe she'd have some answers, you'd think there'd be something out there that would give you relief w/o causing more problems....walking is excellent but surely there's more that could be done. Good luck.

Thanks Sherry for the advice. I have asked my surgeon and all I hear is that this will pass. When?? I am slowing down on the hydrocodone, I don't want to get addicted to it. Again, thank you and God Bless, Cindy

i had problems with gas after I got home from surgery and I tried Mylanta. I think it was that or Maylox. I cant rmember which. I know it helped. I hope it gets better. I see you are walking. that is good. Make sure to get plenty fluids in. Lisa

Well I am almost 6 weeks out and I am very gasy. I don't drink much dairy so that isn't the case here. I haved asked a few people who are further out then us and they all have gas. I have to tell you that you shouldn't hold it in. I know it isn't the prettiest of all things that can be going on right now but if you hold it in your going to get some of the worst pains of your life. I am now at the point where I don't care. If I have to pass gas I do. If someone doesn't like it oh well. I have tried holding it in and I am in pain. Tired of trying to make everyone else around me happy, working on being happy with me. The following excerpt was pulled from the medlineplus drug information link @ nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/uspdi/203600.html (YOU WILL HAVE TO PUT THE WWW IN FRONT OF IT) More common :Anxiety; constipation; dry mouth; GAS ; increased sweating; nausea and/or vomiting; nervousness; pounding heartbeat; sleepiness; swelling of feet or lower legs; trouble in sleeping; unusual tiredness or weakness This medication should NOT be used as long as you have been using it.. Normal max usage is for about 10 days and that is usually the limit when dealing with horrendous pain. I understand that you are in pain with the gas and other symptoms but the meds are only fueling the problem. I dealt with some pretty bad gas issues and I just walked, walked, walked...sipped warm tea as well as using Maalox... it might take some time to clear up but using hydrocodone is only throwing gas on the fire..... I hope you get to feeling better soon! Elizabeth~

HEY CINDY I HAD SURGERY THE DAY AFTER YOU,I AM SO SORRY YOU ARE GOING THROUGH THIS PAIN,HAVE YOU TRIED THE INFANT GAS DROPS,I THINK THEY ARE CALLED MYLACONE(sp)DROPS,MY SURGEON SAID THAT THEY WERE OK TO TAKE,BUT TALK TO YOUR SURGEON FIRST ABOUT IT,ALOT OF SURGEONS ARE DIFFERENT ABOUT WHAT THEY ALLOW THEIR PATIENTS TO HAVE,I HAD GAS EARLY OUT AND REALLY HAVE NOT HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH GAS,BUT YES THAT MILK COULD BE A BIG ISSUE WHEN IT COMES TO GAS,MY HUSBAND AND DAUGHTER ARE LACTOSE ITTOL.AND IF THEY HAVE DAIRY THEY HAVE GAS FOR A LONG TIME I MEAN HOURS,SO TRY TO A DAY WITH NO DAIRY AND SEE HOW YOU FELL,IF YOU HAVE NOT ALREADY TRIED IT,I PRAY THAT YOU WILL START TO FEEL BETTER REAL SOON. GOD BLESS EBONY
