Two Questions
Hey Everyone!
I have two questions. Number one: Is anyone having bowel movement problems? It seems I have to take milk of magnesia almost every night to be able to go in the morning. My doctor says to keep taking it, but I feel like I am becoming dependant on milk of mag--plus it tastes soooo bad! Any thoughts anyone??
Number two: Has anyone tried to eat bread? I have heard such horror stories about eating it!
Thanks!!

For answer 1) YES, lots.... I need to buy something because it is getting a little annoying.
2) My daughter had pizza tonight and I tried some of the crust. Well after 10 minutes I threw it back up but if you've seen anything I have written in the past days that is just my reaction to most things I eat these days. I am going to trya piece of toast soon just as soon as I find a bread to buy. I am not really sure what kind. I was told not to have regular untoasted bread because it can bawl up in our new stomaches.
Don't let what I say discourage you because I have been having a lot of issues with food. I am sure everyone else has probably had a lot more luck with most of the things they eat.

Hello Katie,
Sometimes I won't go #2 for a whole day, but I seem to catch up the next. I was having a lot of problems the few days after surgery, but now it has gotten better. Good luck, and I heard Mineral Oil really does work well.
I haven't had bread but I did have a small piece of a flour tortilla and after chewing it up, it started to get gummy and stick together, so, I spit it out. I don't want to deal with those issues.

Katie,
Try gound flax seed. I've heard they work wonderfully. I haven't tried them yet myself, but plan to pick up some this weekend. Some WLSer have said they add it to their protien drinks and others say its good sprinkled over just about anything. I figure its worth a try.

Hi Katie,
Oh boy, poopie question...
I am not constipated in the sense of OUCH, but I no longer go on the same schedule as before. I think the decreased amount of food has me on the once every three days or so schedule, instead of once or twice a day like pre-op. But when I do go, things are fine. Are you noticing decreased frequency only, or decreased frequency with very hard or painful stools? If it's the former, then don't take anything for it (run this by dr. of course) If it's the latter, then you probably should take something. Isn't metamucil supposed to be natural and sugar free (not sure)? If you are supplementing with iron, this could cause constipation or make it worse. I myself am not taking iron yet partly because of this.
Re: the bread issue, I have had bread a few times. Very small quantities, and really I try and avoid it. It's the only thing that has given me a stuck feeling. If you are really craving bread, what I think is best is a "light" wheat bread (35 calories a slice) I toast it and then cut off the crusts. I think I'm left with about 25 calories MAX. I have enjoyed that under my egg, and who knows, maybe the fiber will help your other issue... Good luck
