:-(The Constant Eating Battle

Anyone else going through turmoil. I have lost 30lbs since Sept 20th. But I'm noticing a slowdown. My stomach can't really take pureed foods, the egg is okay and the apple juice and cheese. But other stuff I don't feel for. However, I really noticed that I was really losing quick right away. But at that point I was doing the 1.5 approx of water AND eating the puddings, jello-o, etc that I was suppose to eat. Now tha****er sometimes makes me nauseous (sp) and I don't really want and/or can't really eat all the food that is in the booklet from the hospital that the weight loss may be slowing a bit. (Not that I'm complaining - I know this will work). I just have an issue of eating when I'm not hungry....cause that's what put me in this problem in the first place. What do you do when you HAVE to eat b/c of this - but are not even hungry?

Cherilyn, Just eat what you can very slowly. We've all been there and it stinks! Take your time and remember you can always come vent on this board. Remember we are all different and will want to eat or not eat at disimilar rates. Wait til your appetite returns. I am hungry a lot now and it's just as big of a pain as not being hungry. Good Luck! Congrats on the weight lost so far! -KT

Hi Cherilyn. I had surgery on the 27th of Sept. I found that when I have no appetite for food, I make a shake with Atkins Advantage canned shakes and water. It gives me 20 gms of protein and extra fluids. Water doesn't go down well for me either, altho I am trying to sip water all the time. Often two of my meals are shakes. I like the Chocolate Royale and the Vanilla. They also have Strawberry, Cafe au Lait, and Chocolate delight. You can buy them at WalMart for about $6.48 per pack of 4. Each shake gives you 20 gms. Often I add a scoop of Carb solution Powder which add another 55 calories and 10 gms of protein. I find I can't tolerate a lot of things either, but just keep trying to only eat your 3 meals per day and drink in between. There are flavored waters like propel and fruit2o's that you can drink too in between. Sounds like you are doing great!! I have lost only 16 pounds keep up the good work. Keep sipping. My struggle is to get out of the grazing habit. Now that is hard. So far I am winning the battle!!!! JO

I have this issue. I can't seem to keep anything pureed down. The only thing I live ont hese days is cream of wheat and my protein drinks. Luckily my protein drink has 40g of protein in one bottle so it gives my protein a huge boost. I have been told that it doesn't always go according to plan on how your body will take to foods. Some people do good right off and others it takes longer. Also there are times when I forget to eat. Breakfast and Lunch were always meals I would have skipped prior to surgery. I try and make an effort to do both everyday. If I am not hungry then I will drink so of my protein drink. There are so many times that I forget and have to eat something right away so that I don't skip meals. I do still skip some but I am trying to so it all the time. I felt like my weigh started slowing down a little once I started trying new foods but I was wrong because I am still loosing. Just give your body some time, it will start catchign up again. There are tons of people on here who have been through a little slow time and then within a week or so they are posting that they are back to loosing again. I wish you the best....... Shannon

Cherilyn My surgery was the day after yours and I am at the same point as you are right now. My weight loss has slowed down. I think that since my last Dr. visit 3 weeks ago I lost if anything no more than 4 lbs. Since last week I don't think I lost at all. I am not worried. I am doing everything right! This seems to be very common especially on this board. If I didn't think other people were going through the same thing I would be panicing right now but it seems that almost everyone who had surgery around the same time as us are going through this slow down. Hang in there Marianne

Cherilyn, I haven't had this problem, so I can't really advise, but I just wanted to tell you to hang in there and try not to worry. I have noticed from the boards that the weight loss rate seems to really fluctuate in the first few months no matter what you do. So eat what you can for nutrition, try to get some drinks in, if no****er then maybe crystal light or iced tea, and hopefully everything will settle down as time goes on. I've heard people say their apetites come back after six months. Mine unfortunately didn't wait for that point! lol if it aint one thing it's another! ~Sue

Who would have ever thought that eating would be a chore??? I mean, if that isn't ironic, I don't know what is. There are times when I am not hungry but know that if I don't eat, I will not get enough calories or protein in. I try to take a few bites anyway. I eat very slowly and chew very thoroughly.
