What are the B-12 shots for and has your doctor recommended them for you? If so, when do they start giving them? I would like all the info on these as possible. I am 2 weeks post op and having a BAD time taking the protein, I am lactose intollarant now and the protein taste makes me GAG! So, needless to say I am weak as heck and everyone keeps telling me how white I look and asking if I am feeling okay. I don't want to look "sickly"! LOL I would appreciate any help/suggestions I could get. Thanks!! Codie

A B-12 deficiency can cause anemia. I had my labs taken before surgery and my B-12 levels were low, but my surgeon gave me a gel that I put in one nostril once a week and it absorbs that way. I like it better than the idea of a shot. It is VERY expensive though. With my drug card it is $60. It lasts 8 weeks. It is called Nascobal. Have you tried different protein shakes?? That might help. Hope this helps! Kell

Codie, Try Isopure drinks found at GNC for the protein. 20oz has 40 grams of protein. They are pre-mixed in glass bottles--usually the color of the flavor...blue raspberry is clear-blue...apple melon is clear-green. They are so good and easy to drink. The grape and orange taste the best to me. As far as the B-12, I take one very small B-12 pill that I got a bottle of from wal-mart for about 3 bucks on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. I have definitely noticed an increase in my energy since taking it. Good Luck!!! Katie Slaughter 5 weeks post-op (-29lbs.)

B-12 shots are usually given 1x/month and are usually started around 3-4 weeks post-op. B-12 does help with your energy level. The B vitamins also helps the body cope with stress. But there are other ways of getting the B-12 in. The multivitamin that the doctor recommended has very elevated levels of B-12, something like 3,333% of the RDA. I'm also lactose intolerant...there are soy proteins and egg proteins available. I tried Ketoslim, it was alright, but not great. I'm getting ready to try Jay Robb's egg white protien. Since the surgery I have actually been able to tolerate some lactose (cheese and yogurt). I'm not going overboard, but I'm not having the dumping or anything that I use to have with it. I did try Jay Robb's Whey protein and it was really good and disolved well, so I'm hoping that the egg protein will too. For the first couple of weeks I was pretty weak and pale also. But after about 3 weeks I started to get my energy back. Brook
