I have an infection!

I had my surgery on 9/27 and I had my drain removed on 10/6. They said I should only leak from the site for no longer than 24hrs. I stopped on Saturday and today I woke up and was leaking badly! My wife called my Dr. and they told me to come in ASAP! When I got there the Dr. examnined my site and said it was infected! The Dr. had to open the hole! He cut me about 1 inch wide and 3/4 inch deep. (OUCH)!!! So far the only non-painful thing was my surgery! The hole is to remain open and My wife has to pack it with gauze 2x's a day. He said hopfully by my 1 month check up 10/29 it should be almost healed. The good news is that since Wednesday I lost another 5 lbs! It has been 2 weeks and I am down 20 lbs. I am so proud of myself! Mike

Mike, Sorry you have to deal with an infection. Thank goodness you have your wife to help you out with the gauze thing. We've had a couple other September people have to deal with the wound packing also. Great job on your excellent weight loss so far... I hope the infection is gone before you know it and are back to just enjoying the weight loss ride! ~Sue

BUMMER, Michael!! I feel your pain, lol!! I have the same thing, and at 6 weeks out I am still packing the darn thing............and it is oozing worse than ever, darn it all. It IS smaller though, but still very deep....like almost an inch. SUPER on the weight loss!! You SHOULD be proud!! And, after all, that is our main focus here!! I am jealous that you have someone to pack your wound! My husband would DIE if I asked him to do it, lol. Hang tough!

Gosh! I don't know what to say but I'm sorry! That sounds very painful! ICK! I also agree that my husband would DIE if I asked him to pack mine! LOL I hope you are feeling better soon.

Hi Mike, I feel your pain! I do not have an infection but when I had my staples removed, the insicion popped open at the top and I now have about a 2x2 hole thats pretty deep that I have topack twice a day and then about a week later I sprang another hole and this week I have yet another, so pretty soon the whole thing is going to be open. I dont have to pack the one inthe middle yet but whenit opens I will. I am going to go broke buying bandages and tape. By the way good job on your wight loss. My surgery was on 9-22-04 and I have lost 20 lbs so far also. I am going to the doc tomorrow so I will see what I have lost if anything this week. Keep your chin up I know its hard but what else can we do? Love Amybee
