I am still experimenting. What I can't eat so far tho is, hamburger, fish, chicken, watermelon, tomato soup and green beans, and pasta. I am doing ok on mashed taters with gravy and sliced turkey. What I absolutely love is pepperoni and a slice of cheese. No carbs nor sugar in the pepperoni but have to watch the fat. I have also discovered russel stovers peppermint patties, sugar free of course. They are the best! Have tried a few sf cookies and find some tolerable. Sigh, I wonder if we will always have to eat cold food tho? I take a few bites then wait before I eat more and my food is cold. Hate to reheat every 5 min. Anyone with the same problem? Doreen

Hi, I'm Ann. I had RNY on 9/21/04. 3 weeks post op and still fighting with bad nausea after I eat. No matter what. And everything tastes terrible. The difference between being starved and full-ready to puke-is about 3 spoonfuls. Will I ever be able to eat more than 2-3 spoons of soup? So then I'm hungry again. Thirsty all the time because all liquids taste terrible and have to fight to keep them down. Please tell me it gets better.

I can not say i am feeling like i need to eat...I just know i need to eat...and then the old habit of wanting to eat even though i am not starved..and i have not had a full feeling...I have had chicken and chewed and chewed...those cans of chicken and ham do not appeal to me at all...tuna i can deal with...but yet when i had the chicken parm it did not agree with me at all...so will be awhile before I try that again...though it also is not on my diet either...I was a bad girl

Hi Everyone! I'm 19 days out and will be doing the clear liquid diet for another 8 days. My surgeon insists on 4 weeks of a clear liquid diet to give everything plenty of time to heal. I have my 4 week appointment on the 20th and immediately after I intend to be at KFC eating mashed potatoes and gravy! Julia

Basically anything that I can chew/mash into a pureed like consistency. I started with cottage cheese and this past week added in some chicken (it was so soft/tender that you could of given it to a baby) and some scrambled egg. As of this date I am not (knocking on wood) having any problems with any types of foods. Now this means that I am not eating ALL foods. No sugars, no super high fats, no foods loaded with carbs and little protein. Basically they are all good foods but I just eat them them in small quantities. I have no issues with drinking either... I came out of surgery thinking that I would have to be sipping all the time. I don't have to. I can't guzzle down big ole mouthfuls but I drink normally. Not a problem. Plain water sometimes makes me feel a little queasy afterwards (not in my tummy but further down in my intestines) and I also find that drinking something warm first thing in the morning sits better as well. I had my Lap RNY on Sept. 23rd and I'm down officially 16lbs. since surgery and a total of 49lbs. since I started eating like a postop right before surgery. I'm at a stall right now and have not lost anything in the last 3-5 days but I'll wager it will kick in once again..... Yesterday I had 2-3 oz. of veggie omelet - 2-4 oz of refried beans mixed with cheese and chicken - bowl of veggie beef soup... and then all of my liquids..... Elizabeth~

At almost 6 weeks, I am allowed to eat anything, says the doc! However, I am trying to go as low carb/high protein as possible...... So, what do I eat? Well, take yesterday: Low carb yogurt for breakfast at 6, piece of cheese at 10, got a "plate" lunch at work of vinegar pork bbq, green beans, and mashed potatoes-no gravy and ate 1/4 of it at 1:30, more of it at 5, and even more of it at 8:30.......threw the rest away. Oh, and a jello snack somewhere in the afternoon........ It was good, and "Oscar the Pouch" did not complain. Lately, water seems the only liquid that doesn't make me gag.....no go on Crystal light or the Nectar protein........which is a bummer.... I am bravely trying a low carb yogurt smoothie this afternoon, and it seems to be ok..........cross your fingers! Has 32g protein!!!

Sounds like you are able to eat a lot more than me so far. My trouble is the gas. If I eat something that does not agree with me, I get such gas in my chest that I vomit most of the day after that. I do not know how to burp, have never burped in my life so the gas gets stuc****il I am done with the dry heaving. So I am going really slow on trying some new stuff. I do have a few lean cuisines and weigh****cher dinners. I know the carbs are a bit high on them but they do have a lot of protein. How much weight have you lost so far? I am down 49 lbs at 6 weeks but not walking cos of my swelled legs. Do you feel as if you have to force yourself to eat thru the day? I do then at 8 pm I have nothing until 8 am the next day which is always cereal. Take care! Doreen

WOW!!! 49lbs, Doreen!!!!!! That is AWESOME!!! And, yes, I am jealous! You go girl!!! I am at -32 at 6 weeks, and feel like I am starving to death mentally....but I get "full" on just a few bites of whatever I eat. I often find that I am so head hungry that I eat too fast, and then boy do I pay..THE PAIN!!! I feel like I am going to split open, like everything is stuck..........and sometimes it is, lol. Hopefully, I will learn to take a rest after the first bite or two...... Poor you..I have never heard of someone who could not burp..that must be painful. Surely there must be a better solution than dry heaving the day away.........yuck! my grandson William used to have this type of problem with his feeding tube, but we could vent it........so, I guess I HAVE known someone with this problem..........silly me....ANYWAY, he would be miserable until we got all the air out. I too like the Smart Ones WW frozen dinners, especially the turkey one....really good protein, and not too many carbs. I can do 1/2 of one, and it is quite satisfying. No cereal for me......usually yogurt for breakfast....I use Hoods low carb low sugar.....12g protein, 4 carbs, 1 sugar, 1.5fat.........and I do not even like yogurt!! But this stuff is ok......comes in blueberry, strawberry, peach, French vanilla (I mix some instant coffee in it.), and banana/berry. HOWEVER, most stores do not have it in the regular yogurt section, but in the health food section!!! It is not very $$..less than $1/container.
