Does this occur only when you have ice cream or anytime you have sugar?

I believe it is suppose to happen with any types or real sugar but you need to have large amounts. That is why we have sugar free foods. They have ton's of sugar free things on the market today. Ask your surgeon what he/she thinks is the best time to add ice cream though. I have no idea on that one. They say when you dump you know it and you usually never do it twice. Shannon

I haven't dumped yet, but I have fat free/ sugar free pudding when I have a sweet craving. My dietician recommended it because you also get some protein from the milk. Just an idea. Kell

DUMPING SYNDROME is not just an issue regarding sugars. It could be caused from many different types of foods. Some that have high oil content can cause it as can foods that have a high carb content. Some folks dump on regular sugars and some dump on the replacements such as Splenda, etc. or even the sugar alcohols.... We are all so unique and different. I would just proceed slowly anytime that you introduce a new food into your diet to make sure that your body can handle it.... Best wishes... Elizabeth~

Thanks everyone for the replies. I just didn't really understand what exactly dumping syndrome is. I must confess that I eat push ups which is basically sherbert and popsicles to help me deal with lack of eating and drinking.

Nikki, Do you like chocolate? There are chocolate fudgescicles. (Now, I don't think that is spelled right, but you know what I mean.) Anyway there is a sugar free version that comes in a small pop that tastes just wonderful. Calories are low and they even have a bit of protein. I save them for a once a day treat. Good luck, gail
