Hello everyone, I will be two weeks post-op tomorrow. I feel alright, but I have problems getting down 64 ounces of liquids. (including my protein) I don't know what to expect or feel. Can someone give me some pointers. I'm eating some soups and popsicles they seem to agree with me. Bu****er first thing in the morning sort of cramps my stomach. I walk 30 minutes almost everyday, but sometimes I get tired. I'm not really hungry ever, but I know I have to eat. Bye for now Elviria

I had the same problem with water. I had my surgery on Sept. 24th. I have not gotten anywhere close to 640z of fluids yet. The hardest thing for me right now is swallowing pills and drinking water/protein shakes. Drinking water is getting better for me, but it doesn't seem to go down right. I think over time it will get better. I am just glad that the nasty taste is pretty much gone out of my mouth.

Hi Remember that you can drink other things besides just plain water and it counts as your liquids. Tea, coffee, crystal lite, skim milk. I find having a cup of tea in the morning goes down better than water. I told my doctor I was having trouble getting in all my fluids and he said not to worry about it. Just try small sips, your soup and popsicles also count as a fluid too. It will come in time. I am nearing my fourth week and things are going down so much easier than before. It does get better hang in there. The first 2 weeks were the absolute hardest for me I didn't want to eat or drink anything except sherbert ice cream. That goes down nice and easy and it taste wonderful. Good luck and keep up the good work !! Beth

Well congrats to begin with. As far as the water, I have that same problem. If you try taking sips maybe by 4 or 5 minutes those cramps should stop. I just keep trying to drink and they finally go away. I find that the decaf tea goes down very easily without those cramps. You could try a protein drink. The whole bottle has 40 grams of protein. Isopure zero carbs. I love grape and orange. They can be purchased at GNC and are 3.50 a bottle. For 8 it comes to a little over 25 dollars, here. If you were to do half for breakfast and half for dinner you'd only need 10 more to get the minimum requirements. 30 minutes is outstanding, you are really doing the right thing for you and your body. Don't worry about getting tired, as you go along it will get easier. One day I just woke up and I was like wow my back and knees don't hurt. And I can walk around the block with my daughter and I don't have to stop because my back is killing me. I am not sure if you exercised much before but if not then 30 minutes is amazing, if so I bet you feel a difference in the way your body is reacting. I am still not hungry much. I remind myself and sometimes I forget. Right now I am surviving on cream of wheat and protein drinks. Some day my body will cooperate and I will add more meats. I keep trying without good results but everything takes time. Keep up the great work. Shannon

I had my surgery the same day as you and I also found it very hard to get the liquids in but it seems as the days go by it dose get easier. I do drink coffee in the morning and it seems that is much easier to get started on the liquids by starting off with something warm. I also noticed that I am not hungry either, and sometimes even though I sould not I wait until I do feel hungry My Dr. Probably would have a cow if he knew, but I feel sick if I make myself eat when I am not hungry. I also am doing alot of walking and I would say I walk about the same 30 to 45 min. a day. So far I have lost 26pounds and feeling great about that. So how have you done on your loss? Hey good luck and Hope I have been of some help to you. Peggy

Hey, I also had my surgery september 27th, I try to keep a glass of water with me all day and just keep drinking. Plus make sure you get as much protein in as you can, I dont always get the 64 oz in, but I always make sure to get the protein in. The protein is more important than the fluid count according to my doctor.

Hi everyone, It is amazing how similiar our experiences are! I had my surgery on Sept. 23, and have had the same issues as most of you. I also carry water around with me all day, but I know I don't drink anywhere near what they want. However, I did get a good hint on getting that protein down. I start with the powdered shake mix and water, and then I add a scoop of Any Whey powder. It has almost no taste, and it adds a healthy dose of protein to the drink. I mix it with some vanilla extract and some banana or mango. I don't use ice cubes since they just made the final quantity bigger---more to try and get down. It will take me over an hour to slowly sip this mixture, but it has a whopping 32 g. of protein. I still can't believe I am talking about eating like this.... When I think what I used to eat..... Anyway, I have lost 20 lbs. in less than 3 weeks, so I am very happy indeed. My best to you all, gail
