Fluid Help
Well, I can only answer for myself...........and yes, I do retain fluid when I don't drink enough............which is most of the time!! If you could just slug down a glass of water, it would not be so impossible to get all of the fluid in...........this sipping stuff just does not get it!!
I also find that my bp drops when my fluids get really low.............like, TODAY, when breakfast (grits!! easy, soft..............go figure!) got stuck and then most of the day! So, maybe 24oz fluid, and less than 200 cal for the day, and only 19g protein..............which is terrible.............but at least the soup tonight seems to be happy!!
So, I guess we both will have to try harder, huh?
I try to divide the fluids. I try to get in as much water as I can but still it hurts when I take my first few sips. I find that a Lg. decaf tea really helps me get my fluids in and it goes down a lot easier then the water. I also find that when I don't get enough in I get charley horses in my legs. My surgeon told me that is probably what it is from. My biggest problem is now getting enough protein in. I need to make an effort to work on that.

I'm so glad to see I am not the only one with these problems. I have never been a big drinker. Would take a sip during a commercial break or while sitting at a red lite. 32 ounces would last me 8 hours at work. I have been a lot more aggressive with my intake but I am still falling short of the 64 ounces. My dietician said we could not count our protein supps towards our total fluid for the day. But I add 4 ounces of milk to my supps to make them more flavorful and a little extra protein to boot and I do count those 8 ounces.
It is amazing how much different the programs are. My dietician say count all fluid intake except broth. If it is protein supp. and you are drinking it then it should count. Also, I asked on this site about how fast you can drink and alot of people told me 2oz every 15 mins. I asked my dietician and she said 10-12 oz every 15 mins. It will drain out at a faster rate then that so it is ok to drink, but never drink more than 1-2 oz in one swallow. I have done fine getting in all my fluids with those instructions and have lost 37 pounds this first month.
