hi all, had my lap rny 9/15 and am feeling good. working on getting my 32 oz of water in and my protein, just like all of you! i lost 20 pounds in the first 5 days but the last 11 days - zero. i'm hoping because my body isn't used to me dieting (been the same weight essentially for 19 years) and it thinks it's starving. trying to think this is funny - don't want to freak out too much! getting in 300 - 500 calories. haven't been sick at all except for once when i had instant grits and i felt like i had a million bb pellets going thru me - didn't get sick but had to put myself down for a nap to get rid of the pain. i've been able to eat mashed salmon a bit and egg salad once but mostly sticking to cottage cheese, egg beaters, a little peanut butter, yogurt, instant oatmeal, skim milk, some refried beans, sour cream (can you see i'm the dairy queen - always was), silken tofu which i scramble and eat with tomato puree & melted cheese. oh and avocado in the last few days. it's soothing. i never used to eat them because of the fat content - what do you think? susan

Hi Susan Welcome to our board! It sounds like you are doing great both in weight loss and attitude. We have some great people here and I hope this board can become even more active as time goes on. It is great being able to share info with others who've are all at nearly the same point as you in the journey. My weight loss was similar to yours, though less initially! I'm now losing at the rate of about 2.5 lbs a week. Not as fast as I hoped, but everyone's comforting me by saying it's better for my skin and hair to go a bit slower. Truthfully, as long as i keep losing until I am near goal then I'm going to choose not to worry and to be happy. Re: your question about eating avocados... as long as it's in moderation, i would think that it's fine. A little natural fruit/vegetable/nut fat like that can be a good thing now and then! ~Sue

Hello and welcome. Nice to see another new face. Seems like your eating a good variety of foods. All you can do is keep working on getting the right calories and protein and you should be golden. 20 pounds is great. And our bodys are in a sort of shock. For me this is a pretty long period of time where I didn't cheat at least once. I have been overweight for the last 22 years of my life. My body isn't playing fair but soon enough it will know I am determined and I plan on winning the fight. I've never had an avocado. Are they good? Shannon

hi and thanks for the welcoming responses, shannon asked about whether avocados are good - the past few days, i've found them soothing on my stomach. but i don't know if they're a 'good' food to have. in the past, as i had posted, they had too much fat but now, just trying to get anything in, they're treating me good! a few days ago, i bought a side order of guacamole to eat - i had to chew it really well because it had chopped tomatoes (i tried to not swallow the skins which wasn't too easy) and onions. so i just bought one and ate it plain, mashed up. i really like the taste. maybe with some soft cheese. it's weird that sometimes we can eat something and it's great, goes down well, and filling and then another time that same thing doesn't work. i had a whole day of not hitting it right with food. the avocado half, sf popsicles and sf jello were the only ok things today. it's midnight and i'm going to give it a rest on my fluids. susan

Welcome Susan!! Avocados are awesome, Guacamole used to be my favorite food/garnish. I could eat it with a spoon. Unfortunately, my dietician said not to have them because there were better choices due to the fat content. She said they are 'safe' for the pouch but if I have them, don't do them a lot. I hope you enjoy the board as much as I have. Everyone here is very caring, kind and supportive. It is nice to know that we are all going through the same thing together. I call this my 'internet support group'. My surgeon's support group is only once a month and this early after surgery we all have a ton of questions and we are all adjusting. I hope you enjoy it here!! Kell

Hi, avacados are on my food list from the Dr. They are a rich nutrient packed food. As far as limiting them...I don't have any limits, but my veggie limit is 1-2 oz/meal. And the fat in them is really negligable compared to how much we all use to eat. Besided, you need some fat inorder to absorb some of the vitamins. There are a few vitamins that are only fat soluble. I think that as long as you are not eating a cup or 2 at a time, you will be fine. Keep it down to a couple oz/meal and you will be fine. Remember to have a veriety of fruit/veggies to have better nutrient intake. And congradulations on the 20lbs. That is good for 2-3 weeks, let alone 5 days Brook
