Food Choices******
Hi Guys
Just wondering what you are all eating in the pureed stage. I am totally going bonkers because I don't know what kind of choices to make.......looking for suggestions. I just got back from the supermarket and I figured I would have a little fat free cottage cheese with a few slices of Boars Head low salt turkey breast for dinner instead of soup. I hope this is ok to eat. For breakfast I have a protein shake, lunch and dinner I have 3 oz soup. Drink water in between all day. (Tonight I am scheduled to begin puree meals so I will try the new meal.) Is this too much to be eating???? I don't want to stretch my pouch. I am afraid to put anything in my mouth ever since I went to my support meeting on Monday and one of the men there two years out said that for two weeks out I eat and drink too much. I see my nutritionist Friday but until then this guy totally blew my mind. I thought I was doing so well and now I worry about everything I put in my mouth including water. HELP!!!!!!

Well I don't know if this is much help / but someone had posted that liquids don't stretch out your pouch. It's sounds true to me. Maybe others know better.
I'm getting tired of this pureed stage evenone else I read that had surgery around mine gets to eat some sort of actual food. I find that I'm very light headed etc.
That guy has rocks in his head! I can easily do 6oz of yogurt at a meal, and I am 5 weeks out..........feeling great, and losing just fine, thanks. My doc wants to see 50g of protein a day........and 64oz of water........so if that is not going to stretch my pouch, that dainty little bit you are having certainly won't!! Have at it!!
Hi Loiusa
I am 3 weeks out. My surgeon will only let me have puree foods for 6 weeks. This is really hard to get the protein in. I tried adding extra chichen to cr soups in the blender and now puree chichen or turkey makes me gag. I'm doing protein shakes, but getting boring. I had a three week check up today and I have lost 28 lbs!!! I still have a bad cough and Ihave a strained muscle under my right rib. Real sore. Any suggestions?
Thanks
Christa
Sounds great to me. However, you may find that you won't be able to eat all that cottage cheese. You should try like 1/4 cup first. Last night I had some turkey with gravy and mashed potatoes. The turkey was 3 thinly sliced slices with a tiny bit of gravy and like 1/3 cup of mashed potatoes. On the package it said the 3 slices with the gravy was only 70 calories. After I finished eating I felt satisfied. I have heard so many different things that can stretch out the pouch and it is all blah blah blah to me. If my surgeon tells me I can do it then I do. Your nutritionist will shed a lot of light on to this for you. Write down your questions so you don't forget anything. I always do that because once I get there I forget everthing.
Keep up the great work
P.S.
One other thing. The time that the man at your meeting had his surgery EVERYTHING was done differently. My friend had her surgery about 4 or so months ago with the same surgeon I had mine with and her pre-surgery diet was completely different from mine. They change their way of doing things all the time. Maybe back when he had it, that was a concern. We know now that isn't the case.

You Ladies are the BEST!
Thank goodness my husband and my Angel were at the meeting too because they knew how bumbed out I was. My Angel stood up for me but still when you hear someone put you down at only 2 weeks out and new to the whole WL journey you are vulverable to criticism.
You are right about the cottage cheese--last night I cut up two thin slices of Boars Head Low Salt Turkey breast mixed with 3 oz of cottage cheese. I ate about 1/3 of the whole thing and was satisfied. Later on I had some sf/ff pistachio pudding that I made with 1% ff milk. Then later on in the evening I had a thin slice of ff ham and alpine lace swiss. I made sure I chewed well. I had my protein shake for breakfast and 3 oz of soup for lunch. Water all day in between.
Thanks again for all the help and support! I really needed it!

Thanks for asking my question Marianne!
I'm just starting to see how much help this
board is going to be!
BTW, the know-it-all at the meeting. I once
heard someone say they were told that they had blown it in the hospital because they were eating too many ICE CHIPS.
This person is now at goal weight.
Guess, we just have to hang in there.
I agree with them all, that guy in your support group is just looking to put others down (that's not what a support group is for). You are doing great and what you are eating is fine. As far as the pureed stage, they made me blend it all up in a blender. You can still have your meat and cheese, as long as you blend it. (but to be honest...I didn't last the full 10 days pureeing...I ended up just chewing really well). As far as suggestions....I had spinach and artichoke dip (like the ones you get at resturants). It was awesome and added a nice veriety. I ground chicken, added some broth, and some curry powder. That was pretty good. scrambled eggs with cheese, hard boiled eggs and made an egg salad, tunafish salad, Quiche (without the crust)...I had one that was so smooth that I didn't even need to blend it.
I hope that helped.
