Hi, I would just like to say it great to know there are other out there going through this too. I had my surgery on 9/17/04 and can relate to so many of the post in the group. I hope that everyone does great. I have been on pureed food now for a week and will be until the 8th which is when I can start having "real food" I have to admit I have been trying all kinds of things. As a matter of fact boiled califlower blended really does taste like mashed potatoes. (add a little bit of butter and salt) I had it tonight with mashed yams and collard greens cooked in a bit of chicken broth. The only thing that seems to be giving me trouble is Gas and noises from my abdomen. I have the burbs and farts like a guy who's drank beer and ate boiled eggs. Anyone know why this is. So far my overall experience has been a good one. I go in for my 4 week check up on the 15th. According to my scale I'm down about 18lbs already but I'm not checking LOL (I check every morning - I need to stop somebody help). Lastly I am having a hard time getting exercise in anyone have some suggestions for a good routine. Well Thanks All and Glad to be part of the group

Welcome Lana! It sounds like you are doing great! Re: the noises in your tummy, mine were unbelievable at first but it's pretty much gone away now. (I'm nearly 5 wks out) But I have read that this continues for some people. I love the mashed cauliflower stuff, used to eat that in my low carb dieting days but haven't tried it post-op. I'll buy some this week and make it! Keep up the good work, as far as exercise, my dr told me only walking for the first month or so, to allow everything to heal properly. So just try and walk whenever you can. Every little bit helps! ~Sue

Well congrats on having your surgery and welcome to our board. Glad your doing pretty good on the pureed foods. I have to try the cauliflower. I am not a big fan of it but I will try anything except tomaotes. YUCK!!! As far as the gas. OMG, I know what you mean. It doesn't matter what I eat or drink, everything gives me gas. I have no idea how long it will last. Good luck with your check up. I promised myself I wouldn't be a prisoner to my scale. I try to only weigh myself once or twice a week. Even if it isn't right I get an idea that I am losing something. As far as exercising goes, take it slowly. Maybe try to get a walk in. You could head to your local mall or if you don't want to be around a lot of people try a local park. Maybe join a gym. You could always just use their walking track to start. For my birthday (October 13th) I asked for a gym membership. At my gym there is a pool, track, etc. To begin with I am going to walk around the track. Then I will start doing the elyptical machines, bikes etc. Then trade and do the weights. Try to alternate it so that my body doesn't get use to one routine. HTH's Shannon

Hi! You're doing great! Quick question about the cauliflower? Do you use only the very tops of the florets? No stems, right?

Thanks for your response. I used both the florets and stems I boiled them up and used that ulitimate chopper (my brother got it and let me use it) added in a bit of butter and salt and pepper did the one two three.... and had ultra creamy whipped cauliflower... so yummy... Tonight I had wendy's chili I put it in the chopper and presto pureed chili it looked really stange but boy did it taste good better than bland old cream of rice...

Welcome. Do you have any exercise restrictions. I had none. I had my surgery 09/02/04 came home 09/03/04 and went to camp for the weekend with lots of walking. I have been walking ever since. My surgery was lap and I was in the hospital for 20 hours and had no restrictions. What does your physician say? P.S. That was funny about he boiled eggs and beer!!! J.

CONGRADULATIONS on 18 lbs. Sorry about the gas, but gas-x is my new bestfriend. Excerise is tricky with limited time. I have been parking farther away. I had to get some milk today and I parked as far as I could and I powerwalked to the store. Finished getting the milk and powerwalked back to the car....only took me 4 minutes but that was 8 more minutes of excerise i got in today. stay off the scale....you will see better results if you limit your weighing. I would rather see 7lbs gone in a week that 1lb per day. Cheryl B RNY9/28/04
