Hello again gang, I went in on Sept 27th and mostly things are doing well. Not as much pain ( except in my very lower back from the stupid hospital bed ) But I'll be on full liquids until this Friday and my fear is about how easy I can drink . Water, juice, frozen pops etc. I try to slow the hot drinks down and even sip the cold ones. But right now, late at night, I think I'll be able to down solid food just as fast/easy and the whole operation will fail. Any comments would be a great -Ruth

no no no no no no no, your are terribly wrong there my love. I speak from my own experience on this one. I was to the point where my drinks weren't filling me. I was drinking a lot of water and not feeling full. I was only suppose to do 1/2 of soup but could finish the can. I was like, if I can eat like this with these liquids what the hell is it going to be like with the solids??????? Well when I first tried pureed I couldn't even handle them. I am still not doing pureed to well. Some days I can handle some things, other days I can't. When you start eating "solids" your going to find that a little really really does go a long way. For instance..... Today for lunch my mother in law made my husband some turkey (frozen foods) with mashed potatoes. Well I wasn't going to have any. Then I looked at the back of the box and it said for 70 calories very little fat and 6 grams of protein. So I said what the hell. The serving size was 3 piece's with a little gravy. I also had about 1/3 cup mashed potatoes. Now before my surgery I would have had half the package with Dh, a pretty good helping of potatoes and all the diner rolls no one else finished. Not now, I ate the 3 piece's of turkey and the gravy and the potatoes and I felt great until dinner time. I was sitting there thinking to myself, WOW that little bit of food made me nice and content. Not overly full but just content and not hungry. So believe me sweety, you have nothing to worry about. Shannon

Shannon, you give great advice. Miss Ruth, Well, I have to say I agree with Shannon. I am still on pureed soups, but I have been eating them a bit thicker than before and I was eating 1/2 cup consistently (or s/f pudding) and feeling satisfied. Tonight I had some thicker soup and I was overly full after 1/2 cup, so I am going to stick with 2-3oz tomorrow so I don't feel that fullness. I have found that I hate the really full feeling that I used to have after most meals every day. I call it food intoxication. You will be suprised. Just remember to eat slow and take little breaks, it takes your body about 5 min to tell your brain you are full and you don't want to overdo it. I found that measuring everything really helps me. It looks like a little bit, but, when you are done you feel satisfied. Good luck Ruth!!! Kell

Hello fellow Pennsylvanian!!! I had my surgery 09/02/04 and am doing great. I think everyone is a little different. I was worried I could eat the whole small chili from Wendy's. I was told, by my physician's office, that was okay. Cause the reality of it is, there is really only 1/2 cup of actual chili, the rest is liquid. I thought like you, is the beginning of problems. You will do fine, just ask for help and be optimistic!!! J.

Water go through fast. I am on soups and I can tell you a reg can of cream soup..... 1/2 cup at a time and I am fine. I really have to remind myself to eat. Don't be scared. Just do slow. I think I am eating too fast....but how slow can you eat !/2 cup cream soup???? Cheryl B RNY 9/28/04
