Following the Clear and/or Full Liquid Diet
Is anyone having a hard time just sticking to the liquids? Do you feel like you could eat more than you thought you would have been able too? Did you try to eat soft foods before you were told you could? What did you eat?
Anyone sick of the liquids? Are you doing anything special about it? Sticking to it anyways? Adding foods etc?
Just wondering
Hi Cherilyn
I had my surgery the day after yours and I am up to eating full liquids. It kills me everytime I see "real food" because I want some! I am not craving any carbs just protein. Here are a few of the things I have been craving: bbq chicken, peanut butter, hot dogs w/sauerkraut, cheese omlet w/low salt ham. I get turned off at the thought of orange jello and chicken broth. Right now the Dr said I should be taking 4 oz of liquid at a time. I have a chocolate protein shake for breakfast and lunch, for dinner I have 4 oz of cream soup. I thought I died and went to heaven when I made tomato soup with shredded cheese. MMMMMMMmmmmm! Water is always inbetween meals. Sometimes I feel like nothing was done to shrink my stomach, but on the other hand, I don't intend to push myself to find out that Dr.'s orders are always right. I am sticking to my orders even though it kills me. Went to BJ's today with the family food shopping realizing that what we were buying I would not be eating except for the s/f ice I bought for myself. Wednesday I start two weeks of pureed food. The one thing that keeps me focused is the fact that I have already lost 20 lbs. and I feel pretty good. I would stick to what your Dr wants you to do and don't take any chances with cheating. My Dr told me the whole reason behind increasing slowly is because we are still healing inside and you would not want any food debri to get caught in your staples and cause an infection. Let me know how you do! Good Luck!
Hugs
Marianne
Definitely feeling some of the same things. I had my surgery on 9/23 and the idea of anymore chicken broth or jello is enough to make me ! Currently, I have protein drinks, blended soups and an occasional yogurt but I feel as though I could eat a chicken leg without any problem! I see my surgeon tomorrow (thank goodness) because I am almost always hungry eventhough I am sipping water all day. It's probably best to try and stick with your Dr's/Dietician's plan, at least until you can talk with them. Remember, not only has our body went through a major overhaul but our minds are too.... Take care and keep us posted.

Hi,
You all seem to be ahead of my plan. My Dr. says liquid diet until Oct. 15(3weeks out) and then three weeks of pureed liquids. I also can eat only 1 oz. every 5 minutes.
I can have liquid instant mashed potatoes and I add a little Schilling's butter salt to them. It makes them taste like I used real butter. I also can thin cream of rice cereal or cream of wheat and I mixed a little Splenda and a very little cinnamon in to make it good. I can also have reduced fat strained cream soups. I tried Campbell's Chicken Gumbo strained and it tasted so good. It's not creamed, but it went down O.K. Today I made my usual homemade chicken vegetabe soup for my husband and I strained the liquid for myself. That made me so happy!!
I have been getting bored and with 11 more days of liquid I was looking for ways to perk things up. I have not had any dumping and I have lost 17 lbs.so I am very happy about that.
I think you should call your Dr's office nutritionist and see if any of your favorite foods can be modified to be liquid form.Good Luck and hang in there, Susan
Just a little more input:
I am on 3 meals of full liquids (3-4oz of pureed soup or S/F pudding) and 4 oz of protein shake 4 times a day and 32+ oz of clear liquids, incl. broth, S/F kool-ade, and water.
It isn't too bad, as there are so many great soups out there. This friday I meet with my surgeon for my post op (2 weeks) and I'll weigh in then. I can see the loss already, just not sure how much. I won't buy a scale at this point. I know I'll become obsessed.
I am anxious to have chicken, eggs and the other purreed things I get to go to this weekend. Just a few more days. But, following dr's orders, as he knows best.
keep up your chin, time will fly faster than you know it and you'll be eating full foods.

Hi, I had surgery 9/27 and came home on 9/29. I was on clear liquids until 10/1 and then full liquids...ie, yogurt, cream of wheat, V8, s/f pudding, s/f ice pops. I have my 1 week post-op on Weds 10/6, they will remove my staples then and as of that day I can start soft foods such as eggs, tofu, cottage cheese, lentils, fruit in own juices. I can't wait, although it hasn't been that bad. I really like the V8 and the protein drink I have is great. I got the Atkins advantage chocolate. Good luck!...Mike
I had my surgery 9/30, and by the time I was out of the hospital, I was craving food sooooo bad! at only 4 days post op I snuck a bite of a cinnamon roll, it was sooo good, but I had a hard lumpy feeling in my chest... it didnt go away for hours and I felt neauseated... I was told to stay on the liquids until tomorrow, but could not wait, I have not had any more bread, but have had yogurt and refried beans...I hope my doctor is not mad... I just cant help myself- I miss the taste and texture of food! This is not fair, they did not prepare me for this feeling of loss, I think I need counseling! Lisa
hello, dont feel bad i felt the same way i had my surgery on 9.24.04 i cheated a lil two and then i started vomiting and had to go in and have my stomach dilated. so then i realized that it was not worth it i go on foods this weekend i did not come up here to tell you that though i was just so happy that there was some one else out there doing and feeling the same thing as me. lee lee
I had my surgery (LapBand) on 9/20, and I'm now eating the "slush and mush" diet. My husband makes a delicious beef stew, and we're on our 3rd pot of it! At first, I was only taking the broth, but it was SOOO much better than beef boullion! Then during the second week, I added a few potatoes and carrots, and now I'm eating some of the very tender beef too. A half-cup is about all I can handle, and of course everything has to be very well chewed. With liquids, I didn't get that "full" feeling in my restricted pouch, and I'd sometimes end up eating too much because my stomach was grumbling and growling! Now that I've added some substance to my diet, I can tell when I'm full much more easily and I don't overeat.
