Just wanted to introduce myself. I am Jessica and had my surgery on the 28th. I am 2 days home and feeling pretty good. Today was actually rougher than yesterday, but that could be because I am trying to wean myself off the pain meds. Most of my pain is on my left side and my Dr. says that is where most of the work was done and not to worry. I thankfully haven't suffered with some of the gas you guys keep mentioning. I hope it doesn't start now. I will say that I feel hungry...is that normal? I haven't seen anyone mention that they felt hungry the first week.

Hi Jessica, I had surgery the same day as you and have had the gasey, bloaty feeling. Last night I had to get up from the recliner and walk just to ease the discomfort. I can't say that I am hungry yet. I have to force down what I do get in, which isn't very much for liquids. I really need to keep working on that area. I don't feel hungry at all or crave anything. I know this doesn't probrably help you, but wanted to share my experience with you as we had surgery on the same day. I know everyone is different. My angle had surgery one week before me and she is hungry. We had our surgeries by the same doctor. Go figure! Take care and I wish you all the best. Warmly, Sherri B

welcome to the board and welcome to the losing side. I am sorry you have pain but it will go away. I had all the pain (well aches) on the left side, especially when I woke up in the morning. After a week or so it went away. Also I didn't have gas in the hospital but now I have it after I eat. It isn't bad and everything comes out fine but it does get annoying that I have gas after every single thing I eat. I felt hungry sometimes but once I got down eating and knowing that I was actually hungry it got better. Some days I can eat my whole bowl of cream of wheat and others I can't even finish half. Good luck and happy losing... Shannon

Hi Shannon, I have a question about your bowl of Cream of Wheat. It sounds like you are referring to quite a bit of food. How much cereal are you referring to in your bowl? On my liquid phase I can have three "meals" a day of only 1/4 c of Cr of Wheat, or soup or jello or sugar free pudding, along with three protein shakes and lots of water. Are you allowed to eat more than 1/4 cup at a "meal"? Sometimes I would like to eat more because I'm still hungry but am afraid to stretch out my pouch in these first weeks after surgery. I am 13 days out, 9-20-04 was my surgery date. I am doing fine, feeling pretty good. Just to pass along some info on what are the most satisfying foods for me on the liquid phase: Campells cream of chicken and mushroom soup tastes great as well as the split pea and the bean soup. Just be sure to blend them well in your blender and then just heat up your 1/4 c. at a time. Good luck to all who are making this life changing journey! Linda
