If I could just get some sleep

I have been wearing a c-pap for 2 years and now the doc says no. He said it may break my staple line. Last night I sleep 2 hours tonight 1 and 1/2 hours. I would feel great if it wasn't for that. I am so tired. My sleep pattern was like this before, that is why I had the sleep study done. I would sleep a couple hours at most and then be awake. When I got my c-pap the first night I sleep 8 restful hours. Maybe later he will let me until then oh well.

Hi Vickie! We have chatted before I am surgery date 9-22 Anyway, I am sssssssoooooooo incredibly shocked that you are not wearing your CPAP machine. That is a criteria for us! We are to have it with us upon admission to the hospital for the surgery and have it on when we sleep---definitely a big thing. When I got home I was missing a piece to my tubing which made it so I couldn't wear it and then when I figured out something else a couple days later, I didn't have the distilled water. Overall, I was miserable too. Sore, so dang tired---I have severe sleep apnea, a level 18 on the CPAP, and finally my husband ran down last night and picked up some distilled water. We rigged it without that velcro piece I was missing and I slept finally all night........with my CPAP machine on at 18 level. Oh my God I feel so much better mentally and overall. I am so excited and knew I needed to do that for myself. I was under strict orders to wear it and not fool around. You have a life threatening condition, Sleep Apnea and have used a CPAP for 2 years and I can not believe that your surgeon is more worried about your staple line. I have a staple line from my breast to my belly button and it is long long long as I have a long torso plus I am of a BMI of 61 or 63. Please call your doctor to ask him to reconsider. I don't like what you are having to go through. I am so sorry that this doctor doesn't understand what most in the USA do. ? I don't get it. ? I too was not sleeping and miserable every night since I was home because of my sleep apnea---sleep 2 hours, up etc. etc. GOOD LUCK! Thinking of you, Thoughts and Prayers, great to hear from you and chat with you again. Love, Michelle

Thank you for your reply Michelle. My C-pap is set on 13, I am so tempted The stomach staples he is talking about are the ones on the inside. He said the pressure could tare the staple line in my stomach. I have an appointment on Wednesday maybe he will change his mind by then. I want to lisen to my doctor and do all that he says because I trust him. I am afraid not to lisen to him because I know he knows what is best. A girl at work had her surgery on the June 28 and she does nothing the doc says. She is not doing the protein, because it doesn't taste good. She is eating Long John Silvers and Chinese. She lost 5 pounds last month, that is for the whole month. She says she is always sick, I wonder why! But anyway I want to try to do all my doc says, but thank you for your concern Michelle, I really do mean that. I guess I will take cat naps until I can do better. Vickie

I'm really surprised the doctor said that!!! I had to bring my machine to the hospital. And now I have to get it adjusted next week. In any case, I, too am having a horrible time sleeping. I keep trying to sleep in my bed, but it's very firm (which Ilike), but right now it's bad with these sutures. The most comfortable place I can stretch is the couch. Johanna

I can relate to the sleep issue and the firmness of the bed I can only get comfortable on the couch also and as for my apnea machine my surgeons requested that it come to the hospital also and to continue to use it, they also asked me to get a self adjusting machine which is something new and i did so that I wouldnt have to keep taking time off work and get it adjusted all the time . Good Luck
