Little bit of gas

Hello All, My surgery was 8/23, last thurs. and I still have a lot of gas. I know they pumped me with CO2 when doing the surgery and I had the big gas bubbles in my rib cage and shoulders the few days after surgery, and man did they hurt. Those are gone, but I still have gas and weird growling noises from my stomach. I also have some fizzing noises in my esophagus. It is really weird. I feel good and I can eat my pureed soups just fine. Is anyone else experiencing this? Kell

Kell, I was told by my surgeon that they don't use Co2 gas for this surgery, (open rouen-y.) I though that was why I was having such back pain in my rib cage and shoulders as well...so he thinks my pain was from the retractor and position on table. I still have gas, but not growling noises.

As far as gas after surgery I didn't have that. However, now it seems that everything I eat gives me gas. It doesn't matter what I still get gas. Luckily it isn't bad enough to knock anyone out but it is annoying. I hear my tummy growl a lot, especially after I eat something. The fizzing noise I am not sure of but I am sure someone else does. Congrats on being home and doing good for the most part. Shannon

If you had the laproscopic procedure they do fill your stomach up with gas to allow them space to see and perform the procedure. I have all kinds of growling noises from my stomach and intestines. I also belch an unbelievable amount. I was told that I could take gas-x, but it hasn't helped. The Dr. said that it is normal and that some people just seem to have a lot of gas after this procedure. They also told me that it should eventually go away. I'm 4 weeks out and it is still going on. Good thing my family and friends understand. My 13 year old brother just thinks it's funny, because I now burp more than he does Just hang in there, I know it's no fun. Brook

HI! ;) I had surgery on 9-22.....so hello neighbor! :D Oh my God did I think my left shoulder and neck and ribs were going to kill me.......doctor said that because of the JP drainage bag it puts a lot of pressure on diaphragm and this causes intense pain in shoulder. A nurse said everyone of her gastric bypass patients (she was new to this hospital and a new grad., but had ran in to a few previous to this hospital) said that the same thing with the shoulders, especially left, was a chief complaint. My doctor said my pains were all normal from the surgery. The nurse did end up pulling out my JP drainage bag STAT as I could hardly breath and the stabbing pain in my left shoulder up to the neck was so intense I couldn't stand it. Immediately after she pulled it, I felt the 20 daggers/knives lift up too. Weird. My ribs are the worse pain ever and I joked with him as to what did he do pull them apart as much as possible and dance in there and he said, they were really pulled apart. So, everything is moved around in order to get to where they need to go. :O The fizzing noises? could be gas and pressure. ? Glad that you are feeling fine Just wish my ribs would quit hurting so much, and they are getting better. I am always feeling full full full. :O Blah! :O FULL! Take Care, Love, your Sept WLS buddy (and close in proximity too I see) Michelle

Yeah, I know I was filled with gas, as I was lap, they don't do it with open procedures. I'm lucky my ribs don't hurt anymore, but the gas is slowly subsiding, which is great. It is just good to know that I'm not the only one. Thanks for all of your info! Kell

Hello everyone, I am to an 8 day post op, my surgery date was 9/24 and I am doing ok so far, but the gas is irritating!! I is coming out slowly, but I cannot belch for anything!! I have little ones here and there, but I can feel them come up at the bottom of my stomach and they will not come out and if I try to make them, it makes me want to puke!! Also, has anyone had little tickles in their throat kind of like acid reflux, but not that bad? I just keep telling myself that this will all be worth it in the end!! Brenda
