I just want to sleep
I had my surgery last friday 24th. I feel like I was over drugged. When someone came to visit I would fall asleep while I was talking to them. I just got home tonight and can't get comfortable to sleep. Now I have a headache. Last night I slept in a chair with the bedside table in front of me with two pillows. Worked pretty good. I was also given to much fluid and my feet and legs are swelled, doc said that would go away in on or two days. I know its gonna get better. I don't have to take diabetic meds any more. I just want a good nights sleep.
Welcome home, Vickie!! IT GETS BETTER, I promise!
I too retained a huge amount of fluid...would you believe 13 lbs more the day after surgery?? It took about a week to all go away, but it sure felt better when it was gone.
I found that the bed was my best place to sleep IF I piled up about 6 pillows so that I was almost sitting up, and then put two under my knees. Others do the chair routine, but it was very uncomfortable for me.
Good luck! You will do great....and when sleep DOES come, it is FINE!!!
Hi Vickie!
I'm right there with you. My surgery was on the 23rd and I had trouble staying awake too, but now I'm home and hate the liquid vicodin because it gives me terrible nightmares. I also had headaches for about 2 days and yesterday that seemed to quit. I slept in a recliner last night and managed to get about 2 hours of sleep at a time before my back starts to hurt or I wake up in a sweat. I've been having hot and cold flashes. I gained 10 pounds of water weight while in the hospital, but that seems to be gone as of yesterday. Just remember to drink LOTS of fluids. I guess we just have to take it one day at a time.
Sending healing vibes to you!

Vickie,
I think this was my biggest complaint post op. Not being able to sleep comfortably. I couldn't get comfortable anywhere and my back was hurting from laying around too much, all I can tell you is around 2 wks post op was a turning point for comfortable, normal sleep for me. Hang in there. I'm off my diabetic meds too! wooohoooo

It's amazing how much you learn from these posts. I have figured out if I have any questions about this process...there's usually someone else on here w/ the same question, it's great!
I gained 17lbs in water weight in the hospital and was pretty loopy the first day. I am 1 week and 1 day post op and I'm happy to report, I have lost ALL of the water weight, PLUS 8.5 lbs...so I'm feeling great. It took me several nights of broken, uncomfortable sleep to figure out my best bet was to take my pain meds just before I went to sleep, then I slept the whole night through. I was in the chair the first couple nights, tried the couch w/ a bed rest...not good. My most comfortable has been in bed w/ a bunch of pillows. I kinda angle them so I'm not flat and then one on each side and under my knees...SOOO much better. I've never been able to sleep on my back, so that's been frustrating. Last night I was actually able to sleep on my side w/ very little discomfort...my best night yet!!!
Bottom line...it is going to get so much better. I was skeptical the first couple days, but I've found there are MANY good ideas and helpful hints on this site!!
Best of luck!!

Hi Vickie
I am one week post op yesterday. When I came home from the hospital I slept in a reclining chair. As of the other night I have moved to the couch and find that the back of the couch is a good support for my back. I was not able to take tylenol with codeine so my Dr told me to use tylenol or tylenol PM. I take the tylenol PM before I go to bed and I am happy to say I have been very comfortable and sleep throughout the night. I hope you find some relief soon and are able to visit LaLa Land!
Hugs
Marianne
