Thank you for all the wonderful "WELCOME HOMES" YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST!
I did a little walking today--mainly in the house-- but I made sure I got up and walked. Have not taken any pain meds (tylenol) because I am afraid to swallow them. I am getting frustrated because since yesterday all I have been dreaming about is "FOOD". BBQ chicken and ribs, eggplant parm., and I am even craving scrambled eggs with cheese and ham. Is this normal? I just keep thinking that if I keep thinking like this I will never get thin! I am drinking my water, prefer it cold. According to my dietery menu in the hospital I was getting 3T of broth, 3T SF jello, 2T juice. Can I increase this if I feel like having it or do I need to limit my intake to what I was on while in the hospital? Any other suggestions would be great!
Hugs
Marianne
Marianne,
I had my RNY on 9/21 as well, so maybe we can keep in touch to see want is "normal." I have had dreams of food as well. The first on my first night postop. I think it has alot to do with anxiety. Just remember that at some point you will be able to most of these things in small portions. I think it would be OK to increase your intake a little, as long as you stick to clear liquids and focus on protein and fluids. I am not able tolerate a lot at this point. I can't stand SF Jello, but SF popscicles are the greatest. I tried some diluted apple juice yesterday and it made my pouch cramp, so I will hold off a couple of days and try again. Are taking a protien supplement? I can't find one I can tolerate yet. When is your first postop appt. Mine is 9/29. I am looking foward to weighing in!
Keep in touch,
Sherry
I am also post op from RNY on 9/21/2004. We need to keep in touch and support each other through these early days. I got home on Thursday afternoon. I havent really been having food dreams but I sure am tired of SF anything especially jell-o. So what I started doing is making my own jello using knox gelatin and 100% fruit juice. It's so much better and goes down easy. I also discovered Dole fruit popsicles that do not have aspartame in them but have sugar alcohol which does not have the effect on blood sugar and is safe for diabetics. They are great and small so not as much waste. I actually ate the whole thing last night over a period of about 30 minutes. It made my little tummy pouch feel so good. Last night was the first night that I slept all night. I too, have not taken any pain meds and feel really great. Keep in touch. Lynn
I dreamt about food a lot at first. Like my surgeon always says, he can work on yout stomach but can't work on your brain. If you find your hungry after eating you could try drinking more water. That helps with those feelings. I would drink 10 ounces of my protein drink for breakfast, have 1/4-1/2 cup cottage cheese for lunch and the other half of the protein drink for supper. Sometimes I would have an egg and I added chicken broth. I bought those little already made cups of jell-o. At first half and I was feeling full. If your not eat the whole cup, ther eisn't much in it and it is good for you. With the broth I just eat-drank it unti I felt full.
I hope that helps a little.

Wow...I all of a sudden don't feel so crazy!! I had RNY on the 21st as well (I was confused when I did my profile, lol). I came home Thursday afternoon and, even though I've had quite a bit of discomfort on my one side where they had to cut through muscle...I'm feeling better and better each day. I haven't necessarily 'dreamt' of food...but I'm getting tired of the lack of options. My mom-in-law is making me some of her famous homemade chicken soup...I'm going to have to puree it...but it's mostly flavor I'm looking for. I don't feel all too hungry most of the time...but I know I need to eat, so that's kind of frustrating. My hardest time has been at night, trying to get comfortable enough to sleep...that ends up being when I take my pain meds, just to alleviate the discomfort enough to try and sleep. I was also getting worried because I hadn't had a BM since 2 days before surgery...but it finally happened this morning...so, as far as I can tell, things are pretty routine. This message board has been great for getting information...I'd be lost and scared without you all!! Oh yeah, and as of this morning, I have lost all of my fluid weight (13lbs!!!) plus 1 additional lb!! Looking forward to making this journey w/ the rest of you!!
