Please help me! I'm desperate
I had lap rny 2 weeks ago today. I am 59 years old and weighed 233
at the time of surgery. I had lost 8 lbs before surgery on a liquid diet.
Even though I may not weigh that much, I had 12 co-morbidities and
really needed the surgery for my health. With that said, I have only
lost 8 1/2 lbs in two weeks and feel hungry a lot. I drink plenty of
fluids but the protein drinks make me so weak I can't do anything.
I added egg beaters, tuna, cottage cheese and deli ham...which makes
me have more energy....but no weight loss since that time. Am I to
drink the protein drinks in between meals and try to eat or what?
Please help me...it may not sound earth shattering to everyone but
I feel like I have screwed up this whole process and am so sad.
I'm absolutly not doctor, so I'm not giving advice, but I know that I am still on liquids only and maybe that is why some people lose more. One thing you should think about is if you loose it a little more slowly than others than maybe you won't have the loose skin problems that others have.
If your not sure of what your doing, no one should ever stop themselves from calling the doc or dietician.
I think your doing wonderful and should not beat yourself up!!!!! Keep going!

The only thing I can add is this... From hanging out on these boards, I have seen many people with these same kinds of posts in the first few weeks. Many of us are carrying around the same fears of failure and fear of overeating. This is what I am doing, based on what I've read (ask your doc though)... eat your meal when you are hungry. Try not to have any fluids 15 minutes before, during, or an hour after your meal. Then start drinking. If the protein drinks are making you weak, maybe there's a problem with them (too much sugar/carbs?) I didn't feel good drinking the protein powder drinks either, but since I purchased the "koolaid" types of protein drinks such as Isopure zero carb, I just pour it over crushed ice and drink this between meals. This system has been helping me feel better. I have less hunger and less of an out of control feeling. But I think the number one thing is the passage of time, each day does get better. Good luck and try not to worry or weigh too often!
Love, Sue
Hurray for you!! I am also 59 years old!! And had my surgery 3 weeks ago!! I weighed a bit more than you at 256, but had the zillion co-morbidities and that was my main reason for the surgery. So, here we are together......
So, let's figure that we did not GAIN our weight at 4 lbs week, did we?
Heck, I've been working on gaining mine for at least 40 years...
Now, if we LOSE 4 LBS a week, that will be about 16 lbs a month.....and you know what? THAT'S ALMOST 200 LBS A YEAR!!! (192 to be exact.) Well, if you only started at 233, you will be under 50lbs by this time next year...............
Seriously, we who are "lightweights" don't drop the drastic numbers of lbs as the larger folks do, but I think we are going to be just fine on down the line. Keep the faith.......we will get there. Heck, you'll be under 200 by Thanksgiving!
