Hi Everyone! I'm three days from surgery and I'm trying to compile a list of everything I should take to the hospital and would love to know what everyone else is taking. For those of you who have already been there done that, what did you take that you wish you hadn't bothered with? And what did you take that you were glad you did? Thanks! Julia

I would just suggest you take anything with you that you use on a daily basis except for things like blow dryers etc. I packed clothes but left them in the car. Someone brought me up some crosswords. If you have a good book bring that. There wasn't much time once I finally felt awake enough to do much. I was kind of tired most of the time. Pillows is a great idea though. Best of luck to you. Julie..i brought all kinds of things..but didn't really need much...chapstick is a must..your lips get sooooo dry...your own pillow...a robe..slippers..and your toothbrush and paste...and that's about it...trust me you cant concentrate on anything to read..and you will be up walking quite a bit..after that you sleep....these were the only things I needed...I did bring a change of clothes to wear home...something lose and comfy...and hug your pillow close to your tummy on the way home..makes the drive much easier...good luck to you

Hi, I have packed a hair brush, a tooth brush, a pen, and some chapstick. My DH is filling the dining room table with things he is taking (or wants me to pack for him) including cereal bars! Just too funny! I will also take the pillow but leave it in the car and have it brought up later. I am going home in the same clothing I came with )new undies thought). I will be praying for US! I go on the 22nd. Hugs Rosey

Those are all good ideas, some more things I would suggest... A back scrubber ( I brought a long handled back scrubber with loofas instead of a brush) it allowed me to take a shower by myself and reach those hard to reach places. I also brought some crystal light with me. It was hard to get all tha****er down, but once I added some flavor it made it much easier. I brought my own antibacterial soap, shampoo and conditioner. It smelled so much better than the hospitals and I felt like I got a good shower and was very refreshed. A tip for the ride home, make sure you get some pain meds before you leave the hospital. The ride home was pretty rough for me. Too many bumps in the road. Holding the pillow over your stomach for the ride home will definently help. I brought a book, but didn't read more than 1 page. I was just too tired. I was either up and walking or in bed sleeping or trying to sit up straight and get liquid in. I hope youre surgery goes well and is problem free. Brook

As most have said - your daily stuff like brush, toothbrush. I wished I'd had a pillow for the ride home. I wish they gave me the pain med presciption be for I left the hospital, because it took a day to find a place that had it in supply, otherwise it would of taken two days to get it. I didn't need all the reading / crossword / "keep me busy" stuff I brought. I read one page of Time mag. Like the others said you are either too busy, or sleeping or just not wanting to concentrate on much. The one thing I keep noting to people wanting to know what to take...I was soooooo happy that someone told me to bring a wooden spoon and baby wipes. I must have short arms, but it helped me to wipe myself. This to me was one of the most important things! Good Luck, All will be well!
