Just Wondering
Hi everybody,
I read these post all the time and I was wondering why the big difference in the liquid diet, I mean in the time. Some has to be on liquids for two weeks before surgery and others just the day before. I have to be on clear liquids the day before. I have my surgery at 8am but be at the hospital at 5am on the 24th. I would like to hear from all you 24th people, and tell me what you are required to do before hand. My prayers are with you.
Hi Vickie,
My date is on the 22nd. I have to start Liquids only 24 hours before my check-in. I too saw all those posts about being on Liquids days before surgery, I was amazed that I didn't have to do it. The hardest part for me is nothing after midnight. I drink water all night long.. so that'll be hard.
Good Luck on your Surgery
This was a question that was just asked and answered at my support meeting last night. The liquid diet I was put on 2 weeks before surgery was 3 shakes a day plus 1 lean meal with a veg. and the meat had to be chicken or fish and only 3oz. The night before surgery it was shakes only and water up until midnight.
Each doctor in each state, city and town has a different way they do everything. Some don't put you on liquids and just give you something to drink the night before, others liquids one night only and still others do liquids the way my surgeon did it.
Eventually they are suppose to make it so that everyone will be on the same kind of pre-surgery diet.
The whole process changes so much anyway. I have a friend who had surgery almost 3 months ago and her pre-diet was totally different from mine. We also had the same surgeon. Each time my surgeon attends a confrence he comes home with new info. I swear that by this time next year they will be on a month long pre-surgery diet. Thank god I had mine already.
I hope that answers your question.

Hi Vickie!
My surgeon requires a weight loss in the months before surgery supposedly to shrink your liver so it's not so much in the way. I had 1 month before my last weigh in with him (9/13) and had lost 6 pounds. He told me to try to continue a low carb diet before surgery (9/23) and only clear liquids the day before surgery with nothing after midnight. My presonal opinion is that he's trying to avoid having patients doing a last meal mentality in the weeks before surgery. I know that I could easily have gained 20 pounds in a month if he hadn't required a weight loss.
My thoughts and prayers are with you for an uneventful surgery and a speedy recovery!
