How does anyone survive liquids?
Hello! I've had surgery on the 8th and this liquid diet thing is killing me! How are you guys holding out?? When can you guys start eating "pureed" foods?? I can eat them in 12 days.. geez I cant believe it's been 8 days without eating any foods!! Woah.. Well any input will help!! Thanks a bundle.. amanda
I am not sure. I see my surgeon on the 23rd and he will tell me what I can have then. It does suck some days. Then I start drinking my drink and realize that by the time I am half done I am satisfied. I tried a scrambled egg yesterday and I did pretty good with it but today wasn't the case. It got stuck and felt yucky. I don't think I chewed it enough. I hope you get through it and are able to get the pureed foods in soon.

I had my surgery on the 1st and by my 3rd post-op day I was on pureed food and by the 14th day on soft food.
Good luck with the liquid and the pureed. I had a hard enough time with the pureed food for 10 days! I hope everything goes well for you. Stay with it, it will all be worth it!
Out of curiosity did they leave a G tube in you after you left the hospital? I had one in for 14 days as per their protical.

The only way I'm surviving is variety in my liquids. I have jello available, sf popsicles, chocolate and vanilla shake mix, a variety of extracts and additions for my shakes, a variety of decaf herbal tea flavors, and alot of spices to liven up my broth. If you look at the bottom of my profile I have a recipe that makes the broth taste almost as good as hot and sour soup. I had it both before and after surgery and still love it. I keep trying variations of spice to see if I like something better, but it is my favorite method. I also made my shakes into pudding pops so that I can get 10 grams of protein easily at a time and don't waste what I can't finish. My favorite flavors are choc/peanut butter, choc/banana, choc/banana/peanut butter, vanilla/banana/pineapple, choc/orange extract. I'm already making plans for my pureed menu. I got a recipe book that is awesome called "Eating Well After Weight Loss Surgery" and one of the things I have found is if it is protein, you can puree it and it will be good. Someone said they pureed a chili dog and loved it. I'm going to puree pizza toppings, calzone fillings, rotisserie chicken, sour cream and spices. I have to wait until Monday to see the doctor and hope he says... move to purees. Good luck

NOTE: I have had no problem with spicy food like I was afraid I would have. There are tons of flavorings that are carb free and work wonders on bland food. Oh "Before and After" has some wonderful recipes as well.
Glad I could help someone else with the liquid period. I love the broth that way... sooooo much more tolerable. If anyone wants the Hot and Sour broth recipe or protein shake ideas - go to my profile at the very bottom of the page. Something else I have found is to make sugarfree jello with the IsoPure Zero Carb premixed liquid protein drink instead of water to get protein when eating jello. I'm using Orange Ice with Orange Jello and am going to try another flavor in a couple days since I have a huge batch.
Hang in there! I have pretty much been on them for 10 days PRE-OP (I do get to eat a protein bar or some powdered spaghetti and chili here and there but most everything is liquid and can not exceed 800 calories). I have 4 more days to go before surgery and then strictly liquids 14 days after. Hopefully this helps keep you going...it could be worse. I have to keep telling myself that too as someone I knew had to do a total of 6 weeks on the liquids. AHHHH!!!! Keep it up you've made it this far!!!
Wow! So sorry to hear how long you are on liquids after surgery. Remember this: It won't last forever and will soon be over...One day at a time!!! We are on pureed food in the hospital. Once the swallow study shows no leaks, etc. we are on liquid diet for the first day then.......we don't eat the surgery day or the next/first day of the hospital. Liquids the second day if all is right and then pureed foods for the next 5 weeks, and I am amazed at the wonderful assortment we get---very suprised. Then the next 6 weeks is soft and ground meat foods.
I am so grateful that I don't do a bowel prep. or liquid diet before nor do a long liquid diet after, etc. I can only imagine how boring and dull and old that is getting for you. HANG IN THERE THOUGH> ALMOST DONE! Then, good bye liquid diet! ;)
Good Luck y'all.
Hey, anyone out there with good protein drinks and where to get them, let me know. Thanks!
