Hello from Mississippi (if we don't get blown away by Ivan...) I had my Lap RNY Sept. 7th and am feeling pretty good. My surgery went very well - the doctor was pleased and said I did fine anyway. I had some pain but nothing I couldn't live with. The hardest part (and kinda embarrassing) for me was going to the bathroom - it was difficult to use toilet paper at first!! Oh well, it's all better now. Yesterday I had my first "food" - luckily no problems! I haven't had any of the regurgitation or other problems I've seen. I've had some burping but I suppose that's normal? Otherwise, I feel great and am already seeing some exciting results. I had a spell with cellulitis earlier this year and ever since, my ankles have been swollen...but a couple of days ago, I looked down at my feet and could actually see my ankles and bones! It was such a great feeling!! Sorry, I'm getting carried away over a little thing but to me it was such a huge victory. Cheri

Cheri; YOUR post is encouraging! Thanks sooo much for posting cause when I read one like YOURS,I feel I can do it. However.....STILL very scared and very worried. I just don't wana sick to tummy or be nauseated. Do I sound 'normal' or what? ha Patricia

Thank you!! I too was scared, worried, anxious and excited - all at the same time. However, the doctor and his staff were absolutely great. The most important thing - get up and move around as soon as you can. I can't remember how long after surgery I was out of bed but it was maybe 12 hours or so. I won't kid you - there is some pain but it wasn't anything I couldn't live with. A pillow helps to keep at your left side (that's where most of the work is done) especially when you need to cough. I didn't have any nausea and wasn't sick to my stomach at all - maybe I'm not normal?? haha. Relax. It's over with quickly and you'll have tons of help whenever you need it! **HUGS** Cheri

I too am 1 week post-op. I had my one week follow up appointment and it went great. I also had laproscopic surgery, and the toilet paper issue as well. Hope you survive Ivan and all he may bring!! Keep up the good attitude.

Thank you! I'm 120 miles from the Gulf Coast but we're supposed to have almost hurricane force winds... Cheri

Cheri, Congratulations! And thank you for sharing your experience. I am just trying to get approved and of course reading everybody's posts so that I'll know what to expect. Heard about the TP issue before - am hoping my arms are long enough (or whatever it would take) so that I don't have that problem but if it does ... guess I'll survive too. You are not getting carried away. And even if you were, isn't that a great thing to get carried away about? Please keep writing. Best wishes Kitty

Your not getting carried away. It is wonderful that your seeing results. I was sitting here the other day and realized my back and knees didn't hurt anymore. I have no idea when that happened but I am so excited. My shoulders have gone down as well as my face. I wish my tummy would start shrinking but I know that will come. Keep going and keep being proud of yourself. Never feel bad because life is good when you feel great. Shannon

I see a difference in my face, but my tummy is still bloated with gas. I have no idea what I weigh but I think I'm losing (hoping it is not wishful thinking). I feel a difference when I wash, put on lotion (I'm doing that like crazy praying it will magically prevent loose skin), and pull on my underwear. My son says he sees it in my face and insists on jiggling my arms because he said my doublechin appears to be disappearing. I told him I will exercise those arms so he can't jiggle them either. My ankles are appearing too and I also think it is no small cause for celebration. I can't wait for my knees and collarbone to be defined. I will have a party that day. A big sign for me was when I could take care of my own butt on day 5. I said to my mom "I bet you never thought you would have to wipe my butt again after I was potty trained" Mothers are a wonderful thing, but if you don't have one nearby... get cheap salad tongs. I never had a problem with wiping before surgery so I didn't think I would have a problem after. I didn't count the stomach pain keeping me from bending and reaching. I must have lost and must be getting better because, as I said to my mom on day 5 "I'm a big kid now". Congratulations on your victories too! Laura (LAP-RNY 9/7/04) your WLS twin.

So, I guess I'm not the only one with the wiping problem just after surgery!! by day 3 I had accomplished that goal and thank goodness, because my mom had left due to hurricane Frances and my dad was the only one there. Dad would have done it, but I'm really glad he didn't have to!!!! Brook

LOL... I bet you were glad You were doing good with day three... I went two more days. Poor Mom. I have an update today. I got weighed at the hospital (day 9) and am down 10 pounds since surgery and down 27 pounds since starting the shakes. Which brings me down 35 since I started planning surgery in July. I'm so excited to see this working.
