LAP RNY 09/07 and no appetite at all.
Hi. I had my my lap RNY on 09/07 and as of today I have no appetite at all. I force myself to eat and I can only get down 2 TBS. I am on puree. Water is very hard to get down. I think I'm drinking maybe 12 oz a day. Also, my stomach is so bloated.
Is this normal?
Thank you so much for any advice and God Bless,
Cindy
I know how you feel, I had the same problem (except I am doing liquids and shakes only****il yesterday. I finally got down a 20 oz bottle of protein drink and a whole can of broth and a couple cups of tea. I don't know what happened but finally it opened up. Before it had, I talked to the nutritionist and she said this happens but it will clear up in the first two weeks because I'm healing. That was Monday, the next afternoon I was good. My stomach is STILL bloated with gas, but I did start getting rid of some of it the past two days... it doesn't look like it in the mirror yet but I feel some relief. Good luck.

Thank you so much Laura! I feel much better knowing that how I feel is "normal".
Boy, what you were able to eat yesterday seems like so much to me right now. I hope that I will be able to up my protein intake soon. I hear that it really helps in the healing process.
Again, thank you and God Bless,
Cindy
Glad to help. I tell you I was scared when I couldn't get anything down the first few days. I hope you get relief soon. If you can get the IsoPure Zero Carb premixed drinks in the 20oz bottle, that will help you because it isn't thick so it was easier (for me) to get down and drink like water. There is 40 grams of protein in each 20oz bottle and the protein doesn't break down like some shakes if you don't get it all in, so you can sip on it all day if need be. It took me almost three days to finish my first bottle. Now I do a bottle a day, except today I did a real shake in the blender. It went down OK, but not as easy as the other. Good luck!
Hi Laura;
I just read your post and was wonderin'.....do you ever feel nauseated or get sick to your tummy? I have read sooo many negative things on this site in the past 2 days since I found it that I'm seriously thinkin' about backkin' outta having the surgery! Geez....doesn't it sound like a whole lotta people are or have gotten shingles? What's the deal with that?
I am sooooooooo worried.. Patricia
I only got nauseated once - and it was after I ate some Ice on day 2 or 3 in the hospital. I think in hindsight it was from the Morphine. I haven't had any shingles problems and I actually feel so much better today. Each day I feel a little better, but today was really pretty good. I still have some gas and I drank my protein shake a little too fast and that didn't feel good. I'm glad I did this and keep looking for the fast forward button on my progress. I would read the posts from those that are two months out to see how they are doing because we are all in the early stages of healing. I know that even with all the pain/discomfort I would do it again. The pain is short lived... the weight loss is forever. Good luck on your decision.
Laura, if you have gotten to this point of wanting to do the surgery then I would definently go ahead. It is definently a life changing event. Surgery is surgery you can't expect to feel great the first week or 2. It will take time to heal and things do get better. It is really important to have a good attitude about surgery and expect that you will do well and not have any complications. It makes such a difference and I should know. I am a nurse and use to work on a general surgical/trauma floor and I am also 2 weeks post-op. I've lost 25 lbs I have a crazy hospital story ( see my post: 2 weeks post-op and a crazy hospital story on 09/16) but I would do it all over again and I'm just at my 2 week point, imagine how I would feel much further down the road. I have not had any complications. The part about shingles...well is a mystery to me. That is NOT normal. You can only get shingles if you have already had chicken poxs and are exposed to someone with either chicken poxs or shingles AND your immune system is stressed to the max (not just your normal stressed out about surgery).
And remember this is a place for all of us to share our accomplishments, but also for us to vent and to get support from others.
Good luck and I wouldn't let this get you down.
Brook
I share 1Sept surgery date with Brook, although I had open and she had lap. I am having my share of complications, too (wound infection and UTI). HOWEVER, there is NO WAY I would want to go back. These little setbacks are just speedbumps on the way to recovery, in my way of thinking. I am losing about a pound a day.........and feel stronger every day. I am so EXCITED about my future..............and that is a complete turn around from before surgery!!
Good luck on choosing the path that is right for you.
