How do I get rid of this gas once and for all!

Ok.. so I knew there would be gas pain. What I didn't know is that if I am idle (like sleeping or watching one movie without getting up) the gas comes back. Not to be gross, but I'm having a hard time getting it all out. I burp baby burps and try to fart, but can't. My stomach is HUGE with gas. I have been walking walking walking. It started to go down Friday afternoon (I had lap RNY on Tuesday) and then it went back up today. Just when I think I have it licked, it comes back and so does more pain. Grrr. How long does it take to get rid of the gas? Anybody? Anybody?

well i just had my surgery on 09/07/04 and when i got home the gas pains were killing me I thought something was wrong w/my pouch, I stareted taking prilosec otc for heart burn and it's been helping me pass some of the gas. goodluck

Man, I would love an answer to the gas problem too! That is one of the most painful parts for me, so far, even with a wound infection and cystitis. The stomach bloat thing is the pits!

Oh bummer! I thought that I would be rid of the gas pains at almost two weeks, but if you are still having them, that is depressing.

I'm 6 days post op and I have a problem with it to. I feel nausous like I need to throw up but I throw up burps. I have done that 3 times. After I do it I feel great but needless to say I'm holding a towel tight over my incision. I went into the main chat and asked some of the people there. Some of them were 2 and 3 years post op and they said that they take a gas x pill with every meal or use mylanta and stuff like that. Good luck. The gas is the only problem I have been having otherwise I feel great 6 days after open rny.

Day 6 and feeling fine?? That is great news, BI........hope it is a good sign that you will just keep on going and never look back! Perhaps I shall get in a supply of gasX tomorrow...........couldn't hurt!

I am only 3 days post op and feel that painful gas too! I tried Mylanta Gas chewables, they have helped some! I feel much better today than yesterday! I still am looking to get that big breath but it will come. Good luck everyone! Seems we have quite a few that had or will have surgery in September! Kelly
