Thank you! and a new Question - Post Op Food
I want to start by thanking everyone *****sponded to my earlier post. I received alot of support and some good suggestions. It is now 8 days till my surgery and I am wondering what I should buy now in terms of food for after the surgery. I realize that the first few weeks are extremely limited but am antzy about it. I live alone and at times am very lazy about food choices. I am going to clear out just about everything food wise just to help force me towards the "good" things. But what should those "good" things be? What were the "lifesavers" for some of you who are a few months out from surgery?
Thanks!!!
Hi there! Well I had surgery on July 21st 2004 so I am new but old also. I would start picking up foods and drinks so that you have a stock pile of goodies. I picked up cans of chicken broth, beef broth, you can get the Slim Fast Cream of Chicken and Cream of Potato shoups, they have great protien and taste good. I bought sugar free jello, lots of it, different flavors, sugar free pudding, also lots of it. Sugar free popsickles. There is also sugar free ice cream. I eat lots of ice chips. I bought an sno-cone machine, a smoothie machine. They have been a god send. I buy juicey juice drinks. They are 100% juice, just dilute them some with water and pour over ice chips and eat with spoon. Please keep well hydrated. I bought caffene free and sugar free tea, and kool aid. You can make up the kool-aid and use ice cube trays to make flavored ice to eat or shave and then eat. yummy!!! If you cook a roast, like a pork roast with potatoes and carrots, etc you can put small amount in blender of each and add broth and make meal. If you like yogurt get sugar free kinds. There is some limits but try and see what you like. From now on its trial and error on most things. But most important don't forget your protein drink. I use ProRated Bavarian Chocolate and the Banana. They give you 22 grams of protein in each 8 oz and when mixed with skim milk it gives you 30 grams each 8 oz. So you get a good base of protein to start on each day. I hope some of this helps. Good Luck!
