Going Vegan or Vegetarian after surgery?
Hello All!!
My name is Jenn. I'm 28,married,mother of two-boy(4)&girl(1). My surgery date is scheduled for September 30th at Barnert Hospital in Paterson NJ. I was wondering if anyone out there is going to drastically change their eating habits by becoming a vegan(no animal products at all) or a vegetarian(may eat fish, eggs and dairy, but no meat) after they have their surgery? I have tried to be a vegetarian on a couple of occasions but haven't really had much luck. So I've decided that since I will have to learn how to eat again after the surgery, I might want to take advantage of my starting over and just not reintroduce meats into my diet. I understand that meat has protein, but I've found that there are other ways to get the protein I need with out the meat. I'm looking foward to my new life and I would love to be able to share it with all of you and hopefully be a part of this wonderful supportive family you all have created. Hope to hear from someone soon. -Jenn
You know it is something I have thought about. I as a rule don't eat much red meat and when I do it is usually only if someone else makes it. I think that it won't hurt me but I have to see what I can eat to see how I will be eating. If that makes any sence. Like some people say they can't eat chicken etc.... I love chicken so if I couldn't tolerate it I really don't know what I would eat. If your decide to go that route I wish you all the best.

Hey Shannon,
Thanks for your best wishes!! I'm gonna give it my all. If by chance you can't eat chicken after then I'm sure you won't have any problem finding whatever alternative suits your buds!! It might be hard in the beginning without the chicken but if you get sick from eating it then you pretty much can't do anything about it. Your body would have made the executive decision and you'd have to find another substitute. Maybe turkey !! Anyway, I appreciate your wishes and I'm sure I will use every last one of them!!! -Jenn
Hi,
Right now, I'm about as close to a vegetarian as I can get right now. I eat fowl and fish, but no beef. I am thinking about giving the fowl and fish however, especially after learning about mercury levels increasing and the things they're feeding poultry in general.
My only concern is making sure I get the vitamins and minerals inside me when I do that. Most people don't recognize that meat was originally the "side" dish of a meal and not the meal itself. Now we've gone the other direction.
