I am having surgery on September 3rd. I am so nervous and excited all combined. I am nervous that i will wake up with the dreaded tube but I have been told because I don't have sleep apnea and have had 3 hour surgeries before and didn't need to keep the tube in I should be fine. Oh man that scares me! I am trying to find a psychologist in the Hartford CT area that specializes in bariatrics. They tell you all the doctors, etc, but not the psychologists. Any ideas? I am having the surgery far from home so that I want to find someone close for support!

Hey, I have a surgery buddy. I went today for pre-admissions testing so I am good to go. I am not nervous at all. I just hope it comes fast because I want to get it done and over with. I talked witht he anestesia lady today and she told me that I will either have the intubation while I am out or the fiber optic intubation that they do just before you go to sleep. I had the fiber optic one done when I had my UPPP in March. I just remember going gugugugug and then going out and waking up doing the same thing. But it was painless. She also told me that I could end up waking up and still have the tube in but I was told if that was the case that they keep ya sedated a bit so the tube doesn't bother you. What ever happens I will just be glad to have it done and over with and be on what I love to call "The Loosing Side"...... About trying to find a psychologist in your area, you could try talking to your PCP to see if they can refer you to a few. If you have a hand book from your insurance company maybe you could call a few in that book and see if they deal with bariatrics at all. Maybe you could go into the Ct board if you haven't already and post a question about it. I am sure there are a handful of people who would be able to give you some good advice. I hope that helps. I also wish you all the best with your surgery. Shannon

I too am having surgery on the 3rd. That's pretty cool. I don't know any doctors in the Hartford area, so I can't help you there. But I can wish you an uneventful surgery, and a speedy and successful recovery. Make sure to update us all as soon as you feel able.

Me too Me too I'm Friday, Sep. 3rd also. I think it's a great date because of the 3 day weekend, hubby won't need to miss as much work. What kinds of things are you all doing to prepare for this? I just found out last week that my surgery would be this soon. I plan on going out to buy the diet jello, chicken broth, liquid vitamins and a robe. What else are you all doing to prepare? Are your surgeons having you do a clean out beforehand with clear liquids and laxatives or just going in and fasting the night before? (mine is having me do the latter) Wishing you all health and success with no complications!!!! God bless! ~Sue
