I was finally scheduled for surgery for Sept 1.. With surgery just being a week away I am now being told that I have to have a sleep study done or they will postpone my surgery. I am really angry with Dr. I's staff. I have been pursuing this for a year with nothing but mountains to climb. I would think that they could have mentioned this 6 months ago or even 2 months ago when THEY scheduled the surgery. Has anyone else have this problem?

Hi Chatter Box, I was not told by my surgeon to have a sleep study, but I had one for my own peace of mind because I have had a lot of trouble sleeping lately. I do have sleep apnea. It would probably be a good idea to have one if you/they suspect you have it. Check out the Sleep Apnea message board and you will see why. Good luck, Lisa

They told me all the tests that they want me to have and clearances they need so I had all of my tests scheduled way before the surgery date and enough time in case of problems. BUT I had a problem with my psych eval results. The letter was VAGUE according to my surgeon. They tell me this 10 days before surgery. Talk about pissed. So I ended up seeing my psychiatrist to get another clearance letter. (Thank God I was able to because she was going on vacation this week....*shwew*) I don't know what the surgeon will say about that. I see him for a weigh in (also cuz I put on 14lbs after he told me not to put on weight) on August 30th (just 3 days before my scheduled surgery). So I am a little on edge about that. But my hubby is gonna come with me for moral support. I did have a sleep apnea test done but that was done in June. That sounds like an office slip up. Why did they tell you now that you need this test now?? Did they schedule it yet? You don't know what tests you need or don't need. I don't understand why now. Erin

My surgeon gave us a HUGE packet to take home and read after his seminar. At the end of the packet was a list of every appointment we needed to make and all the required things we needed to have done. He also provided the names and numbers of the people he recomended we see. It made everything easier. I am sorry you have to go through this crap. Sometimes things come out that really make us loose our minds. When I was suppose to meet my surgeon for the first time I called to confirm my appointment, that was on a Friday. Come monday I go to set out for my appointment and I find out they gave my appointment to someone else. It took me almost a year to get that appointment and I was furious. Thankfully they were able to get me back in later on that week but I was still very upset. The sleep study is easy, unless you hate sleeping out. If you call them and let them know when your surgery is and talk to the surgeons office and demand they get you in soon you should get in fast. I will keep you in my thoughts. Good Luck Shannon

Thank you for your support. I did finally get someone from my surgureons office to make the appointment for me and I had it done wed night. I really got the run around with my clinic and his office but finally got someone from his office to help me since they where the ones that wanted it done. They won't even get the results for a week though. Alot of help that was, however, it will be nice to have some answers to my sleep problems. It was a little strange sleeping in a clinic having someone watch and listen to me. I had the hardest time getting to sleep. oh well. thanks again.

Hi, I guess doctors do things differently. My doctor came in the next morning after I had my sleep study and after looking over the results told me right then that I had Sleep Apnea. I was then schedlued for a 2nd test using the CPAP. Keep your spirits up. Thanks, Lisa
