I WAS JUST WONDERING IF ANYONE HAD TO STOP AND HOW THEY WERE DOING.tHIS IS THE 3RD TIME i HAVE QUIT AND IT HAS BEEN THE TOUGHEST BY FAR. BUT SO MUCH EASIER THAN A DIET.GLAD I DONT HAVE TO DO THEM AT THE SAME TIME LOL!!!!!!
Well I never smoked so I can't tell you from a personal level but I know when my husband quit it was pretty bad at first. The first time he tried he was miserable. He was like PMS X's a million. It was so bad I wanted to buy him a carton. Then he started researching things on line about second hand smoke and he finally dedided to give it another try. The last and final time he just tried cold turkey again and he was extremely emmotional but it worked. He has been smoke free for almost 6 years now. I know it is a hard thing to give up and even if you cut down dramatically at first that is still awesome. I give you a lot of credit for even trying. I wish you good luck with quitting and with your upcoming surgery.
I have tried to quit so many times in the past. I finally promised my self that when i got a surgery date I would quit. Well I got my surgery date three days after buying a carton of cigarettes. I smoked about a pack a day and finished my carton and have not smoked since. that was 6 days ago. I was going to use the patch but when i put it on it burned my skin. So I have done this completely cold turkey. I haven't had any cravings at all. the only thing that I have been having is severe anxiety attacks. I don't know if they are from quiting smoking or all the crap that is going on in my life right now.

My doc won't operate if you are still smoking. So... I am going to smoke my last cigarette before I get on the airplane!! I am going to ask my primary care doc to prescribe me one of those little inhaler things. I take Wellbutrin and that really helps - I probably smoke only 7 or 8 ultra ultra lite cigs a day now. Also, the last time I quit (lol) I bought some good cinnamon sticks. You have to buy the good ones - the cheap ones are too fat and flaky. They are the size of a cigarette, you can hold them, chew on them, draw air through them just like a real cigarette. Besides, they give you sweet breath. (I am also going to take Xanax on the trip so that I don't kill my husband, the pilot and everyone else on the 10 hour flight to Brazil)> Good luck to us all!! We need it!

I quit smoking 6 years ago. It was one of the hardest things I ever did, but without a doubt the best thing I ever did for my own health.
There's a great website for information and support. Just do a google search for "QuitNet" and you'll get the address (I guess links to other sites are against the posting rules).
Good luck!
