Another Newbie
Hi Everyone,
I too have been fiddling around on the site. I have a tentative surgery date set for September 22nd. The only problem is my insurance company (Oxford) wants two years of doctors notes that I have been on a supervised diet for the past two years. I guess they don't consider weigh****chers, atkins, slim fast, and all the many other diets I've been on good enough. Does anyone have any good advice on how to deal with the insurance companies? Thanks.
Hi Joann!
I honestly don't know how to help in this area but I had a thought as I was reading your posts. Did your PCP or any doctor note anywhere in your records of you doing Weigh****chers, Atkins etc etc etc.....? Maybe if someone has noted it in your medical records that would be a help. Other than that suggestion, I didn't have a problem in that area. I'm sorry. Insurance companies are a pain in the butt. Good Luck and I hope that everything goes smoothly for you.

My insurance company gave me the run around from day 1. They finally denied me...I appealed...they denied me again. I went to the Maryland Insurance Administration and they found that Kaiser denied me irresponsibly so they got it overturned. My surgery was supposed to be on June 22, but here I am in the September board. LOL And I'm not leaving!! Good luck to you.

If you have a good relationship with your doctor, go in and request him/her to write a letter stating that you have tried these methods to no avail. Some insurance companies will take a letter.... others will not. If your doc supports you in this decision - they will do everything in their power to get around the insurance stuff. (They get the rear end from insurance, too.)
Good luck!!
